DarkShadows Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I was wondering if anyone has read this book? And could tell me if it is accurate and if it is a must read. If this is how men think and if it gives a thorough explanation on how men love the women they say they are in love with. If it made understanding men better, etc. Any other details would be good too, please.

norajane Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Yes, I read the book, as well as Nancy Friday's other books on women's sexual fantasies. I thought it was a fantastic book. It's a compilation of sexual fantasies printed word for word as men have written them and submitted them to her. Each section on the different types of fantasies has thorough commentary explaining what these fantasies represent/mean to men and how they relate to men's lives. It's her interpretation with the assistance of several psychoanalysts and psychotherapists. There's a lot in the book about how men love, what love means to them, but it's as it's revealed through their fantasies and the roots of those fantasies. The message I took away from it is that men's fantasies are ultimately about having sex with a woman who is willing and desires the them; they want to fulfill the women they're with, and they want women who want to be fulfilled by them. No matter what they do with their imaginary women in the fantasies, the women are about yes! more! Acceptance. The book goes into quite a bit about men's sexual development and the effect it has on their psyches as adults. To me, it gave me an insight that allowed me to be more understanding and sympathetic toward them and their sexuality. I'd recommend picking up "Women on Top" to read along with "Men in Love". Having both views will help you see the differences and similarities in men and women and sex.
