marfulls Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I am trying to get the knowledge out there to people regarding the practices of a lower mainland bootcamp. I know of these things because I am a fitness instructor who worked for one of them. I have recently resigned because I was being asked to do a very aggressive warmup, not progressive, not to remind participants of water breaks, no stretching in between sets of workouts and the list goes on. I have a high amount of integrity for what I do for a living because this is my full time job. Now what is happening is that the class is being run following what I would not do and people are going to get hurt. I believe that the general public needs to be educated more and to not always trust what the instructors say. I need to be questioned to keep me accountable and then people are less likely to get hurt. I know that even if something doesn't seem right, people will do it anyway to fit in to the group or because they believe everything we say. DOes anyone have any ideas how we can get this knowledge out there because I don't want anyone to get hurt but I want to do it annonymously without slagging the name of the company, because I do believe in the bootcamp experience?
johan Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 You may be right. I don't know how I would do something like that. If you were to write a letter to the editor of a newspaper or an industry magazine anonymously, they wouldn't know you from any other bitter former employee. My opinion is that you resigned and expressed yourself in doing that. I assume this operation is being run in a free market economy with people who select to pay for the services. And if they are dissatisfied, the market will take care of it. If they like it, then they'll keep going and paying for exactly the services you think are flawed. And who are you to say there's a problem with that? If people get hurt, things will change quickly, and/or lawsuits will follow. If they are falsifying their qualifications, the law will find out about it in the process. In short, I suggest you let it go. Be honest with anyone who asks your opinion personally. You can't anonymously slag the company without slagging the company. Get another job and take care of yourself.
