Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think white society is used to thinking of black women as either quiet, or introverted. It's just a common stereotype. You probably catch them by surprise and challenge some faulty assumptions.
Touche Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 That is SO stupid! It has no bearing on anything at ALL! I'm white and Jewish from New York and I'm supposed to be loud and brassy and whatnot...and I'm not. I'm quiet and reserved in real life. Forget the stupid stereotypes. Just be yourself, introvertgirl. You're just like me and I've made it through life just fine.

A nice thing about on-line is that no one has any clue about your age, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or anything else unless you tell them. The only time it really matters is if you're talking to prospective real-life dates.

Like, if the guy says "HI" and you respond with "I'm african american", then i'd see why the room would get quiet. However if you are both talking about family and nationality and stuff, then it gets quiet, well, you're probably talking to some jerks. Unless they're only looking for potential mates, in which case, that's part of the deal. There's guys who like my petite frame with glasses and geeky look, and there's guys who dont I just focus on the guys who do.
a4a Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 No it should not matter. It should not matter if you are a friggin green midget from Mars! And why are you doing this? I know many reserved and quiet black people. Women as well. Doctors, admins, and house wives. but Touche my goodness you certainly are not reserved with your opinions...... :p :p :lmao:

Who the F***K do you think you're talking to?
Buttaflyy Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I guess someone who isn't also black would have a better answer to why some might respond the way that they do should answer this but.... I've also wondered the same thing before. Not so much that I got a really noticeable response, but I do know what you mean. If the subject comes up, some suddenly become awkardly silent. Like someone else said, I can only see it mattering if it was a dating site or something like it. But then you've just got some as#holes online, just like in real life . Screw em!
allina Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 I think it could be several things, mainly, I think that sometimes men (especially white ones) don't know exactly how to respond to a statement about your race. Chances are that it isn't because they are reacting in a negative way but that they don't want to say the wrong thing and offend you. I've noticed this in people that don't have much regular contact with people from various backgrounds.
Author quietintrovertgirl Posted September 10, 2006 Author Posted September 10, 2006 An online guy stop talking to me via email because i told him i was black. This all happen last week.
Touche Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 How do you know it's because you are black? People stop talking to other people on line all the time and we don't always know the reasons why.
alphamale Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I'm wondering do i have to tell people my skin color before i PM/email/IM this person. that's probably a good idea QIG...certain people don't date certain people
burning 4 revenge Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 An online guy stop talking to me via email because i told him i was black. This all happen last week. QIG, you have to stop going to Stormfront to meet online friends
dgiirl Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 An online guy stop talking to me via email because i told him i was black. This all happen last week. I wouldnt waste any time thinking about it. If he stopped talking simply because of your race, then clearly he was an asshat and not worth your attention It's no different than guys who stop talking to me cos I have small boobs and wear glasses or something. Forget him There's plenty of OTHER men who dig the way we look.
