UnknowingOW Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Who's ever done a dating hiatus? I'm at this point in my life dating isn't doing it for me. I'm really happy with my life. I travel, persuing my MBA, studying French, taking dancing (ballroom and Latin) dancing, wine groups, smyphony, blah, blah, blah...basically focusing on myself for now. I have decided to self-impose a dating hiatus. My friends think I am nuts, but I think it's a good thing. Thoughts?
tikibabe Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I imposed one on myself last year in the autumn (October) and didn't start dating or having sex again until the end of May this year. It's one of the best things I've ever done for myself, because it gave me a chance to just be myself without the distraction of a relationship (whether serious or not). I really had an opportunity to assess what I wanted and needed after getting out of a relationship in which I was lied to and cheated on for years but kept forgiving. I realize our situations differ, however, I am a proponent of a dating hiatus if it is self-imposed for healthy reasons, and I think that it sounds like that's the case here.
Author UnknowingOW Posted September 7, 2006 Author Posted September 7, 2006 Tiki, That's is exactly what I am thinking. I know what I want, but I also know what keeps happening when I do date...it's like I end up with someone with issues, and to be honest, I am questioning why I find these types? So hiatus it is!
Sally00 Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I've always been "EH" about the whole dating thing. I never felt like I had to be with someone... I never approached anybody. If someone came and wanted to date me and I liked them back, then yeah I'd give it a chance. But my attitude was pretty much: I'm happy not to date anybody because that means less drama in my life!! Now I've got an amazing boyfriend. I don't have to worry about the whole dating thing anymore. My friend has said numerous times that she would just plain stop dating and refuse guys. But everytime there was a guy, she'd suddenly date them. And now... apparently her and this guy are planning on getting married... after only 2 months. Which reminds me....... I'm gonna post about that.

Author UnknowingOW Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 It is a good thing...Thanks Martha!
johan Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I would if I could. It wouldn't make a lot of sense at this point to say I'm going to stop dating.
Author UnknowingOW Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 Johan it's those lat/longs you've got posted...all the LS women are looking for ya to date!
Touche Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I'm on a dating hiatus. But then, it wouldn't make a lot of sense at this point to say I'm going to start dating.
IWalkAlone Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I'm on a dating hiatus, but it's totally involuntary. Most of my life has been dating hiati, separated by brief periods where I date someone a few times. I enjoy the things I can do myself, but void of romance and sex SUCKS!
Author UnknowingOW Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 I've done the married thingy, I've done the dating thingy, I've done the egagement thingy, I've done the LDR thingy, I've done the FWB thingy...it's time to change. No more dates for 2-years. I was telling one of my oldest friends who is getting married next year for his 4th time (ekkkk). Of course he said..."what about sex?" What about it? Darn, I think a 2-years holding periord would make for great sex when you finally decided to get back into the game.
norajane Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I did the hiatus thing some years back after I found myself continually falling for guys who were unavailable (married, long distance, emotionally unavailable, whatever). It was like spring cleaning until I could figure out WTF my problem was. It was good for me.
KLG Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I did it for 3 1/2 years. I thought I really needed to focus on me getting my head strait. It turned out to be the best thing I ever did for me. I learned a lot about me.
