blind_otter Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 A good friend of mine called me and said his dog died today. He had to take her to the vet to be put to sleep. We are both crazy dog lovers, which is partly why we are such good friends. I want to do something nice for him, but nothing too intense. Any suggestions from fellow animal lovers?
tinktronik Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Just take him over maybe some cookies and spend a little time with him , presence is the best gift. Sorry about your friends dog.
Author blind_otter Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 well she was the oldest dog in creation as far as I was concerned. I can't say I was surprised. To be honest I was always surprised when I heard that she was still alive. her name was gidget, RIP!
tinktronik Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 RIP gidget . I always wanted to be named gidget. Not that you needed to know that , but , yeah , she was named well .
Adunaphel Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I think it would be really nice if you just spent some time with him right now, he might really need the presence of someone that is a friend and (being a dog lover) would understand how he feels.
quankanne Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 best thing is to spend some time with him, and let him share about Gidget. Or, if you've got a picture of the two of them, get it enlarged and framed for him – I think he'd be touched by something like that, because it would acknowlege his love for her. poor guy, I cannot imagine how hard it must be to part with a beloved pet you've had so long ...
Author blind_otter Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 yeah. He had this dog through his divorce and he's all torn up about the dog dying now. I think he really bonded with her when he split up with his exwife and now he's really upset because he's partially dealing with the breakup of his marriage. Poor guy, indeedy.
superconductor Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 If you have any pictures of your friend and Gidget together, how about getting an enlargement and having it framed?
Author blind_otter Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 Gidget was a pitbull that was rescued from the underground dog fight scene that is pretty thriving all over the US - now that I think about it. It's pretty ghetto. She was a cute dog, but psychologically and physically scarred. I have a picture of her in my backyard. She looks scarey as hell in the picture though.
a4a Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 depends on how much cash you wanna spend. You can get a little garden plaque with her name on it and a tree for him to plant... You could donate money to a local shelter in her name for him (that will help other dogs like her that escape the fight scene) You could make a nice photo fram with her pic and her tags and collar in the frame with it........ I do this with my passed horses.. with a little bit of mane hair. I retire their bit, bridle or halter in the shadow box frame.... comes out nice if you frame it up right at one of those do it yourself shops.....it is not that expensive to do. Add her name to the many rainbow bridge websites for him. If she was cremated a nice urn for her ashes.
