NightsInWhiteSatin Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 I havent had sex for 6 months and i've had normal periods for the past 6 months etc definatly definatly 100% NOT pregnant because it's just impossible i'd be over 6 months gone if i was and im not and plus i've been having regular normal periods and i was also using protection 6 months ago. So....this missing period......is worrying me....i'm 19 been menstruating since i was 12....never missed a period once....they have been irregular in the past but for the past 4 years i've had a period once a month.... not pregnant... dont think its the menapause which would be shocking if it was! dont think its a phantom pregnancy as i really dont want kids at this age and apparently phantom pregnancies happen through psychological things like wanting to have a baby so much etc...and i dont... reaaaaaally dont. I have been very stressed out and up and down emotionally like a yoyo these past few weeks with alot on my mind...could that cause me to miss a period? hmmm....
AriaIncognito Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Well, I'm no doctor, but i'd suggest 1.) taking a pregnancy test to rule that out 2.) seeing a doctor. Unless your body fat is extraordinarily low, you more than likely wouldn't just stop getting it for no reason. Get yourself looked at. You simply might need to get on a BCP to be regulated. Jennifer
laRubiaBonita Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 could be stress..... but i have pcos, google it..... it is weird. basically o slight hormone imbalance, and insulin thing.... which has only come about since i was 18-19-ish.... i am 27 now.... but was on BC, which kinda masked it till i went off. anyways.... i am going on 80+ days with no period, because my body is wacked and will not produce enough of the proper hormone, progesterin to make me ovulate and have a period. but to be dx with PCOS, you have to take some blood tests, and ultra sounds.... The most common symptoms of PCOS are an irregular period, infertility, increased hair growth and unusual weight gain, even with dieting or increased exercise. Women with PCOS will often go for months without a period and then start bleeding heavily for days. This occurs when the uterine lining has gotten too thick and the body must naturally shed it. Because PCOS disrupts ovulation it can be very difficult to become pregnant. Other signs of PCOS include acne, high blood pressure, obesity, and abnormal facial and body hair growth (due to too much testosterone). One of the less recognizable symptoms of PCOS is depression, which can be misread as a bipolar illness. While depression stems from many factors, we think it is always a good idea to consider PCOS if patients have other symptoms. In some medical practices antidepressants are prescribed which do not alleviate the underlying issues and therefore are not very helpful. HTH!
brisman Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 One missed period is nothing to be concerned about. Excessive stress, worrying or emotional disturbances certainly cause amenorrohea. Best thing to do is certainly not be concerned about it for now.

Both while I wasn't sexually active. Jennifer
laRubiaBonita Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 if you do not ovulate.....aka produce an egg....... you will not have period.
the_alchemyst Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Hi, Nights. I've been wondering where you've been. So, where've ya been? How've ya been? Any luck with school? Nights, how long has it been since you last menstruated? How many times has your period skipped? One month? Two months? Or has it been all of these six months? (I hope not!) I don't think you're condition is all that abnormal. Your conclusions don't seem to be correct, though, but that's good. Firstly, it's not menopause! The average age for menopause is 51, although going through this phase as young as 40 is still considered normal, but again, the average is about 51. The other diagnosis' that come close are Perimenopause and PMS, but even yet you are still far too young to be exhibiting these. Perminopause is the transitional phase in which you go from normal mentrual periods to no periods at all. This transition usually takes about 10 years or so, so you are still to young to be going through this. So, really, don't worry about it being menopause. About Phantom Pregnancies, well, no--it's not that. There is only one way to get pregnant, and we both know what that way is. Phantom pregnancy is just another name for a false pregnancy in which a woman who is not pregnant exhibits all the classic symptoms of a real pregnancy and is firmly convinced that she is pregnant, even when medical evidence clearly states that she is not. Phantom pregnancy doesn't really have anything to do with you being pregnant, but with you suffering from a condition known as Pseudocyesis. In this event, you truly would not be pregnant, yet you would continue to believe you are, despite medical evidence and opinion, thus calling you for treatment not inregards to pregnancy, but other more psychological things. So, no--your mind did not get you pregnant. There are actually many common causes for missing or skipping periods, especially with females your age and under your circumstances. Some such things include major lifestyle changes, like starting a new job, sudden massive workload on the job and/or school, and bereavement, which can create enough stress to make you to miss your period. Other things like rapid weight gain or loss can cause you to skip a period and can lead to amenorrhea, which is particularly associated with malnutrition or low body fat caused by eating disorders. Another thing can be that you're getting too much exercise, which is often connected with heavy dieting, and which can also stop your periods. Lastly, there's some evidence that suggests that in some cases, heavy smoking can also be the cause of skipped periods or amenorrhea. Do you smoke? Oh, and of course there are other things like serious illnesses, mental health and emotional disorders, and hormonal conditions, which can be the cause of what you are going through. Obviously, the first thing you want to do is to go to a doctor to get an actual medical diagnosis. After they tell you why you are missing your periods, then you can proceed to taking care of that problem in the most proper manner. Often times, though, you will see that many skipped periods are the results of heavy doses of stress, which I am sure you are dealing with. Regardless, know that it's not anything of which you mentioned, and that you can't be pregant if you have not been having sex. Go to a doctor and let him or her check you over and tell you what's wrong. And also, I've learned that the more you actually worry about missed periods, the more you delay them, in turn. So, try to stop worrying and go to a doctor instead.
KittenMoon Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Hey Nights- DOn't worry about it. Probably just stress- and more stress makes it worse. Another thing to consider is that your body begins to go through another round of hormonal changes around your age to early twenties. (At least, this was my obgyn's explanation when I went to her for seriosuly increased cramps around 18) I'm 25 now and my periods are def different than when I was in my teens.
ShoeGirl Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 How late are you? You said you are stressed... that happened to me a few months ago I was about 2 weeks late but then everything went back to normal... if you can reduce the stress at all it will help you and you will most likely get your period. If you are more than 10-12 days late then I would call your doctor.
