Citizen Erased Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Okay I have been with my boyfriend for 2 years. If I stay with him for another 5 years, I will be 24. We were talking about it and I realised that I feel that 7 years is an incredibly long time to be with someone without thinking of marrying. Most people these days arent even married for that long. However, I know that most people would consider 23 to be too young to be married. We are only 19 so I dont exactly want to run down the aisle or anything but I am really confused as to how long we will be together until we are thought to be old enough to be married. We already live together, I love him to death but I would like to finish my education before I start a family. I like to live in the now, but I am just curious as to what other people think of how young is too young?
RecordProducer Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Well you are young to know who is right for you. You might love him to death now and feel differently in 3 or 5 or 7 years. I hooked up with my first BF when I was 16 and loved him to death until 19. We stayed together until 21 and were even seeing each other for one more year. I married someone else and realized that the 1st BF was a total ass in all aspects. But when I was with him, I loved him and thought he was great. I am not saying this will happen to you, but you may cool off and/or realize that you're not right for each other. This realization comes from growing up and maturing. I was different and had different needs when I married my first husband at age 23 from the time when I married my second - 30. I know that lack of experience with men, poor love market, and settling for less made me make a bad choice the first time I got married. Not my age. If there is anything you don't like about your BF now, multiply it by 10 - that's how much it will bother you in the marriage.
burning 4 revenge Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Wow! I had no idea you were so young! You're but a baby You come across as older sometimes
magichands Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 You come across as older sometimes Exactly. Sometimes being the key word here. Just kidding... you know me - always being the idiot. I like what you said about "finishing your education"... might I humbly suggest that you don't stagnate after you graduate. But seriously, if you don't already feel secure in your relationship, then marriage isn't going to cement it for you. You will know when the time is right. You both. And - for future reference - you can't have a baby in the now. I have heard it usually takes about nine months. That gives you time to paint the nursery.
