My boyfriend, also 43 just came out of a 22 year marriage a couple years ago and has 4 children (3 of which are grown 18, 19, 21) including an 8 year old that lives with Mom. Ok - here is the scoop in short.........he can't let go of his kids and puts them 100% over the relationship. He is afraid they "won't like him or his decisions" if he dates me, says no to them, etc....He financially helps them, interferes in their lives (which they love go figure) and enables them in other situations too. Here's his answer: "I was a jerk in my marriage. I have changed, I wasn't there for my kids and now I am no matter what. How can I have you and them at the same time?" He sees this as a struggle and with a broken heart from a failed marriage, the kids growing up and now me in the picture, he is clearly overwhelmed. While he loves me, I am just not a priority. We decided to "give him space to sort all this out". This is what he told me to read/listen to.........a song (see below). Here are the lyrics. Good luck figuring this one out........HELP!!!
