Talking to some friends this weekend, one of these deep philosophical conversations that come about with enough booze, and we were wondering about average weights. Conversation started because one of their lawn chairs was rated at 250lbs.

Anyhow, in the US for adults 20+, average male is 190lbs (I'm above average! Woo-Hoo!) average female is 163lbs.

I apologize for asking dumb questions, but are lbs pounds? :o

Sorry, yup... (No clue why "lbs" are "pounds.") So weights are ~86Kg and 74Kg, lawn chair was rated around 110Kg. :p

Thanks!

I would be curious to compare the data to the average weight of male and females living in other countries, but it looks like I can't find reliable sources on the internet.

It looks like half italians are overweight and that 10% are obese.

I have always wondered whether the "supported weight" information on lawn chairs is reliable. I expecially wonder if it is still weight that they are talking about or if they consider that a 250 lbs person actually moves and shifts her weight around. :)

Plastic lawn chairs look expecially tricky to me. I'll never admit it, but deep down I believe that those things have a mischievous soul. :p

To avoid confusion between pound (weight) and pound (money). The abreviation is very old and traces back to the Roman "libra".

The moral of the story... get with the metric system people

I know what you mean, but don't worry about lawn chairs so much as ladders. Many step-ladders are rated at 200 pounds or less. I'm 225 and could easily carry another 75 pounds, so shopped around for a ladder rated at 300. If that lawn chair breaks with me it's entertainment, but if the ladder breaks...

Hugs to you. Maybe we need a special olympics or something for us?

Really I do feel like I could lose about 5 lbs right now. Starting to think I got some weird disease because I don't think I look skinny at all.

If I ever move to the US or UK, I'll probably have serious self esteem issues related to adapting to the non-metric system.

110 pounds sound like *a lot* of weight.

Goes both ways, 102Kilos (for an adult man) sounds like a fatal disease to me.
