Does being a Massage therapist make you decent money?

Posted

I've known a few professional massage therapists and like any profession, the income seems to vary with one's skill level and association with different facilities. None of these people were destitute, and they did have their own cars, so I'd imagine you can make a decent living at it.

I went to massage school after college. I learned from that experience that I can't handle having to touch people for my livelihood. Sometimes I just don't want anyone to touch me, or to touch anyone else. Plus there were people who showed up for massages without showering. Gross. Run your hands along their back and rolls of dirty dead skin show up under your hands.

Also I had an inciden in clinic where and old man ran his hands up my inner thighs and cupped my poontang. I told a teacher, he was banned from the clinic, but I can only image what would have happened if we were alone and he had an opportunity to do more.

That said, massaging only makes decent money if you advertise, work in a pretty established practice and can garner enough clientele. It's like being a hair dresser. You have to do all the legwork yourself in order to get regular clients.

most of my friends from massage school who did go on to get licensed work 2 jobs. Their regular job, and massage on the side. also in order to make decent money you do have to sort of live in a more populated area.
