rambunctiousrat Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Hello, all. I was just wondering if anyone had any information on kickboxing and its effects on weight loss. I'm quite a bit overweight and I know what the components are for weight loss....healthy and balanced meals, regular exercise, wanting to be healthy over eating junky foods, etc. I just need to start practicing what I'm preaching. Anywho I'm starting college this fall and my campus rec center offers free fitness classes. Kickboxing is one of these classes and I would just like to know if this would help me with my weight loss (along with a healthy diet and all that jazz).
MsArtful Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 It sure will, any kind of activity like that will help with weight loss.
Poboy Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 please consult a doctor or some proffesional on campus before taking up kickboxing considering your weight issue. It shouldnt be that big of a deal but take some advice beforehand kickboxing does help in weight loss ... there is also something called cardio kickboxing thesedays ... check it out if possible
Returning Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Hey Rambun, I started Muay Thia Kickboxing 9 weeks ago, it would depend on the trainer and how the lessons are structured. I do 2 x 2.5 hr lessons a week and have lost 2 stone since starting. I have cut bread and cakes etc out of my diet and when my fitness improved started running 2 miles twice a week. I'm 42 yrs old. Get some loose fitting shorts that allow free movement of the legs and elasticated ankle supports are a good idea. Take an old towel to start with as you will sweat buckets if you get into the workout. We skip with ropes for 15 mins to warm up. Good Luck
