Today i got home to find porn downloading on my boyfriends' computer. upon closer investigation, i realised that it was child porn and more specifically rape....this, to me, is completely sick. there is nothing worse than child porn.

unfortunatley, my boyfriend is at work at the moment and will not be home for 6 hours. i could not wait that long until he got home so i called him at work and screamed the s**t thru him. he, in turn, got horribly angry and told me to f**k off, which to me is an indication of guilt.

anyhow, he explained to me that this porn could be the result of a trojan or virus on the computer. is that true? can people really hack in to another persons computer to download this stuff or am i being naive?

Hmmmm... I don't know. If he doesn't deny the fact that he could've downloaded this porn, I'd take that as a clue... like you said.

I also do remember that I was on a website a long time ago and all of a sudden I got tons of pop-ups on my computer. They were of naked ladies. I was like "OMG WHAT THE HELL?!" My mom came in the room and my first reaction to her was "I didn't do it!!! These are nasty pop-ups!! I don't know how to get rid of it!!" She totally understood and knew I would never do such a thing on purpose and we just reset the computer.

I'm not sure about someone being able to hack or what-not. I am not that computer literate. But there are pop-ups that can happen.

I suggest when he comes back from work, not yell this time. Give him atleast the benefit-of-a-doubt. Tell him what happened in a calm manner (I know you are shocked by all this... but being angry and yelling won't help) and what you saw on his computer and see what he says. Hope that helped.

I doubt its from a trojan or virus. the fact he got defensive probably gave him away. If for some reason wrong people were to find out, they will take the computer plus he will more than likely go to jail. Where did you find this downloading at? Does he have a site he goes to where you can get free movies/music and thats where it is? How about the history have you checked there too?

Hmm...I hesitate to recommend snooping, but in this case, I know I'd want the truth (it's just too sick). If you really want to know if he dowloaded it, go to Start on the left corner of task bar, then Control Panel, then Internet Options, click Settings on the temporary Internet Files "general" page, and then click View Files. You should see a list of what has been going on, unless he deletes his internet history.

Yes, it is true. It can be as a result of a trojan horse which has bolted a back door to his computer. If I were him, I'd be looking at who my enemies are because stuff like this is normally random. The fact that it is child porn would indicate to me that he may know who the computer attacker is.

I had porn download to my work PC and re-write the registry so that every single time I opened an internet explorer page, it started stalling with multiple pages opening and links being added to my desktop. I immediately got in touch with my IT dept - because I'm good but I'm not that good and they couldn't figure it out. They had to completely reinstall my machine. I lost s*** loads of data due to that. Oh and all because I clicked an innocent link on a google search. My work servers aren't that secure though - their theory is they can shut one server down in a heart beat (which they can) which costs them less than uploading the number of licenses it would take for security software and updates for all the employees to use.

Also, tell him he needs to use a browser which is secure (IE6 is notoriously less secure than other browsers) and he needs to update his firewall and virus software every week!

If it is by chance a trojan then,he should have not got defensive and the fact that when she asked him about it, he seemed to know what she was talking about as well. If its a trojan he needs to take measures to get it off quickly if possible.

With due respect PB, I hear you and I purposely didn't address the nature of the emotional aspects of the OP's post because quite simply, I couldn't begin to comment. Suffice to say, if I was accused of something like this and it weren't true, I think I'd be pretty pissed off let alone angry that someone could think this of me. But, if he knew it could be a trojan, I think he knows enough to take care about porn downloading on his PC. Sometimes trojans are sneaky and can get around all kinds of security measures. I'm not defending him at all. Simply stating that it is in fact possible for stuff like this to download. As for the rest of the issues here, I can't comment. Sometimes, emotionally charged issues like this, it is easy to jump to conclusions. If I accused my (imaginary cos I ain't got one) boyfriend of this and found it to be untrue - imagine what that could do to a relationship..?

I never said it WASN'T a trojan or virus. In my first reply I said I doubt it was. Glad you know about computers so you can help out people like that who are wondering about things such as that. Heck I may even need to know some things one day. I'm simply saying that he needs to get to the bottom of it then if it is a trojan. Hopefully they will find out for sure what the deal is.

Gah! nooo, I didn't mean any offence - just I felt I had to stay away from the rest of the debate (I've made the mistake of accusing someone who was innocent see!)

I personally wouldnt believe him, and I would have already called the police. They can certainly investigate this more than you. They have tech people who take your computer and go over everything. THEY will be able to determine where it came from.

If your boyfriend is innocent, he shouldnt really have a problem with this...since I'm sure he wouldnt want to be accused of it some other way.

Kind of like the idea of clearing yourself before the accusing starts. You're more likely to be innocent when you've turned everything in freely.

Yes I understand chinook. :) You were just trying to explain to me what you meant, as I was doing to you. Its ok.:) I do hope though that OP gets to the bottom of it. Trojan or not, it needs to be delt with.

Regardless of where it came from it is VERY VERY illegal. Even if it wasn't your boyfriends, you should report this to the police. Let them sort it out. If it's a trojan then the police will determine this, and hopefully you will be able to have a hand in bringing whoever is responsible to the police.

YES TOTALLY!!

And, (I'm jumping the gun here, but want to say the following because so many women are blind in love, and deny bad behavior of SO's) just some thoughts in case you come back saying that you're scared to turn in his computer:

If you're worried about upsetting your BF, forget about it.....I'd much rather have an unhappy boyfriend than live with those children on my mind for the rest of my life, knowing that I could have done SOMEthing to at least TRY to stop it before more are hurt. Who knows how many children are being affected, and if I could be a small part in bringing justice for them I'd forget all about what that boyfriend thinks.

Just the possibility of saving some poor child(ren) from that hell is worth it.

Also, if your boyfriend were to break up over that wouldnt it tell you what kind of person he is??? It would mean either:

A.) He's innocent, but is more concerned about himself than helping to put a stop to it.

B.) He's guilty, and thats why be became so upset and broke it off w/ you.

Lets hope that another option is the case:

C.) He totally agrees with you that his computer should be taken to the police so that they can figure out where the porn was coming from, and the 2 of you go to the station and explain what happened.

Good two posts from Bab & Kat there.

I have been working with computers and operating systems such as windows xp for over more than 5 years and out of all my years I have never heard of trojans or whatever downloading porn movies cause of hackers. They can install software and viruses and all kinds of crap but not download movies especially porn. Isn't it a little obvious that he did it. Just look at the evidence. Number one its his computer. Number two he left it on. Number three he obviously left it on for the download of the porn movie to finish while he was gone. Number four if he really didn't do it he wouldnt of yelled and told you to f*** off. Thats the one thing i learned from my experience and thats that when people yell when you ask them if they did it yelling is a way of covering it and making it seriously look like they didnt do it. But i wouldn't really jump to conclusions right now cuz if he really wanted to download it he wouldn't of left it on for you to obviously see and find out later on right?

Funny how that trojan downloaded only child rape porn.

That stuff isn't free, you know. Check his credit card bills.

most Peer to Peer software packages install by default as a server ready to accept files from anyone.

I have seen computers at work where someone installed edonkey and they where receiving porn being sent to them..

It is possible !!!!!

and it happens all day long to thousands of computers..

Check his computers for peer to peer software and if he has any delete it..

Peer to Peer software almost all have backdoors built in as spyware..

You should ALWAYS give someone a chance to explain before you accuse.

There is definitely spyware which downloads porn movies. If the rules here weren't so stringent, I'd' give you the link but go to any of the best antivirus makers' sites and do a search on 'downloads porn' and you will certainly read about the malware programs which will do that. Also read up on 'hijackers'.

I, too, got a virus from doing a search. Twice. You should check the site's address in the bottom left corner of your screen when you pass your mouse over the link and if it looks wierd, don't go to the site.

I've used various Peer-to-Peer software since about 8 years ago, and have never had any porn or music or ANYthing automatically downloaded.

Every type I've ever seen you have to actively click on something to download it.

If a program allowed automatic downloads/uploads, then it would be some type of major bug, or a secret, and the user wouldnt be able to actually SEE it download...because in all my years using P2P I've never seen something downloading that I didnt choose to do so.

The OP said that she saw it downloading....meaning that it had to be actively clicked. I say it again, I've never in 8 years had porn downloaded on my computer unless I chose to do so.

Get that computer to the authorities ASAP

Also, do check his credit card statements and/or check card statements. But look for random companies that have seemingly normal names you've never heard of. Those places always show up as businesses so that SO's dont suspect anything.

The key is, though, that they are random businesses....not some company that you'd know of

There are only 2 peer to peer software packages out there that do not install backdoor spyware

You must be using one of those.. there are about 20 others that do.. I am in IT and oversee corporate computers and I have witnessed it myself..

If the software installs as a server then you also serve up the files and also give anybody rights to upload anything they want..

So what. It becomes criminal when they start distributing CHILD PORN!! I find it hard to believe that anyone possessing child porn would be sharing it with random people. But, giving the OP's bf the benefit of the doubt is fine, but whoever is uploading it should be prosecuted. Period.

that is what P2P software does.. it catalogs all the files to be served and uploads the list to the main search server that all the client software uses to find the files..

All random people.. and people also randomly upload files as well..

It is the internet.

To me the course of action would be to talk to your BF.. NOT SCREAM at him and figure out where it came from..

Delete it and move on..

Child porn is very bad but this one movie or file does not make somone a pedophile.. and if someone else downloaded it then delete and move on..

In 30 secs I can go out on the internet and find child porn.. Should I sdpend all my time reporting the entire internet ? No..

Chances are that the file came from a computer in a foreign country that doesn't have child porn laws

Google the words ( peer to peer spyware )

Click on the first link on the top ...

You will find it interesting.....

Well those of you that do use P2p will anyhow

Well consider yourself lucky. It doesn't mean it doesn't happen. But go argue with the antivirus companies yourself. Write them and tell them they don't know what they're talking about.

what your boyfriend was downloading were only innocent pictures that gratified his maternal instinct
