Whatsyourpleasure Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 I have met and married a man I met online. We started on an aol chat room and talked for about 2 months before we talked on the phone and met about 2 months after that. 8 years later...we have been married for 6 and are pretty happy. (Every couple has their little quirks) Do you think this is acceptable now adays or still looked upon as being taboo? Was it ever taboo anyway? Im not ashamed of it...but when people ask and I tell them that is where I met my man...people kinda look at me like I was a wild and crazy person.
NTB Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 don't worry about what other people think as long as the both of you are happy then nothing else should matter.
basscatcher Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 I don't think it's taboo or really crazy. I've met some wonderful people online in person.. Most of them I stay in contact with still. I think the media makes to much noise about the negatives of the internet vs the good. Negativity gets the most attention and makes money in our society. It's really sad. The internet is not a safe place if not used with caution. I know people who have met online and married and they are still together. My cousin is one of them.. If I meet Mr. Right online I will be happy to say thats where I met him and how!! We met, we clicked, we were compatable, and we worked. Period.. We don't have to marry the neighbors cousin anymore. Its a vast world and we have more options and we can find better people to fit into our lives with so many choices out there. I don't think its taboo. I think people are brain washed into thinking it's bad because the negative stories are the ones told 'LOUDLY".
Outcast Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 I think that people who think ill of folks who meet on the internet are luddites. "Just cain't figger out them newfangled typing machine thingies. " How crazy is it to NOT use the Internet - rapid communication, ability to search any area to find people that don't happen to live right in your little burg, PLUS the ability to check up on people.
