i broke up with my fiance last night after about a week of stress because our wedding was to be postponed for religious reasons. we could have had a 'normal' wedding and then do the religious ceremony a year later, which is what i wanted, since the last few months before the wedding we would be separated with him at school in another state (5 hours away) and me still at home working to save money, but he wanted no part of that. he wanted to wait and do the religious ceremony right off the bat. after i told him what i wanted to do about the situation, he questioned my faith in our religion and god, and it hurt more than anything else has ever hurt me. i took off my ring and gave it back to him, when he asked why, i asked him why he'd want to be with someone he didnt think had faith in god and walked away. he apologized, but i dont think he really appreciates me, or even tries to understand me. what do i do? i love him, but i want him to respect me and my opinion. i can't imagine being with anyone else, but i need to feel valued in the relationship.

Whoa - don't "jump the gun" as the saying goes! :) Now, take a deep breath, and take it from the top...

Sure this will be a stressful time for you both (weddings always are, for the bride, groom, their parents, etc...the list is endless) - and, what with you wanting different things regarding the religious ceremony, that'll only make matters more tense...

Now, you're not going to give it all away for the sake of this one incident, are you? I mean, you must have a lot going for you both as a couple...and you have both gotten along so well up until now to agree to commit to each other by marriage...

As for him not appreciating you - well, you've known him this far, have you ever doubted this aspect about him before?

Don't throw it all away because of this one incident - have a talk again (things are always different in the "heat of the moment"), and talk your issues through with him.

Besides, you never know...having aired your views to him may have made him realise what he would be missing out on if he did lose you for real!

Talk it through, see where the disagreements arise, fix them and get that wedding date back on the calendar!

Good luck! :)
