BenJammin Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 i started talking to a girl at a bar and we were getting along great when i asked her if she wanted to leave and go get a burger. she freaked out on me that she was a vegetarian and that meat is so sick and how dare i ask her. now, i know a lot of people are vegetarians, but not so many that it's common enough to assume about someone, at least not where i'm from and where i've been, including here. how was i supposed to know she didn't eat meat? and even if i did know and had forgotten, would it be that big a deal to remind me? i don't know what her deal was, but sh*t, she freaked me out. it was kind of obnoxious, but at the time i was so confused, i didn't know what to think. it didn't even have to be a burger.
ronnieromance Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Well, I see where you're coming from from a numbers standpoint. But you need to understand that, while probably raised on meat, she, for whatever reasons changed her mindset on it. After you give it up it really seems absurd to eat meat. Like the idea itself goes from hunger inducing to something like "what the f*** was I thinking? That's retarded." I guess it's like some ex-smokers will be like "I don't smoke that s*** anymore." once they quit. -R-
Art_Critic Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 she freaked out on me that she was a vegetarian and that meat is so sick and how dare i ask her. I like what RR posted.. But she should not have had the attitude of how dare you ask her.. that is just plain rude.. it is only food and if 2 people don't talk and discuss what they eat then there is no way for you to know what they like or dislike.. It sounds like you are better off without her.. if she sets off that easy think of what she will say when you want to use lambskin condoms instead of latex
MarnieGirl Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 i agree with the other two, but i also with you, benjammin, that it is obnoxious. she could have just explained it: "oh, sorry, i don't eat meat, but maybe we can go somewhere else." that would at least prove she's still human. it's possible that if she's that explosive, she really is that appalled by meat, or she's one of those crunchy types who identify themselves to everyone by their causes...loudly and whether you want to hear it or not. some people are vegan (or whatever brand of vegetarian) because they believe in it, others do it to be cool. in my experience, the loud ones who proclaim their non-meat status at any opportunity are usually doing it for attention or other people's benefit. either way, it doesn't sound like she is going to be easy to get along with.
Author BenJammin Posted June 22, 2006 Author Posted June 22, 2006 <<she's one of those crunchy types>> i think marnie and climber might be right. how the heck should i know? if i had asked if she wanted to run amuck and get some nuns pregnant and she freaked, sure, but not even close! i could understand an aversion to meat, to any food, but i do eat it, so shouldn't she also be conscious about offending other people, especiallly if she gets so offended because people can't read her mind? if she was allergic to apples or oranges, is it okay to scream at me for not knowing and inviting her to an orchard? or to a movie that happens to not be the kind she prefers? i am thinking this is not going to work out, because wtf? the more i think about how she talked to me, the angrier it makes me. i really don't think i deserved it.
tanbark813 Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 That's one thing that's annoying about vegans/vegetarians: Some will get offended that people eat meat. But you never see meat eaters get offended when people only eat veggies. Goddamn scrawny vegetarians.

climbergirl Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Meat is yummy!! I could never date a non-meat eater for very long. I wouldn't know what to cook-(however, that's kind of a 'Midwest' thing).

Maybe she really thinks it's just f***ing repulsive. I won't date girls that eat certain things. Some people don't like smokers. -T-

Some people don't like smokers. -T- that's fine, but freaking on me like she did was un called for. everyone has things they like and don't like, just tell me in a normal way. i hate reality tv, but i know a lot of people watch it, so why scream at someone for suggesting we watch it together?> hy not just no thanks, i don't watch it, it's not my thing"? i met another girl anyway. hopefully she's normal, but who knows. maybe she'll hate the color blue and i'll find out the hard way.

I mean, ithink that's the big difference. We're not all scrawny, either. -R-
tanbark813 Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Yeah, man, don't sweat it. Chances are she has low self-esteem and this is her one thing she can use (in her mind) to look down on people and try to feel better about herself.

I know it is evil but kinder than saying "listen, you gross me out and I really do not want to talk to you".

Not really the same thing, but I see your point. I wouldn't compare watching tv to what amounts to an, often, ethical choice better compared to religious beleifs. -R-
MarnieGirl Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 it's a personal choice everyone must make for themselves. but like any choice, it shouldn't be imposed on anyone else, nor should anyone be berated in any sense for not being psychic and predicting people's preferences.
ronnieromance Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Maybe she was just trying to brush you off ...... hell I have told men I have 4 kids at home just so they leave me the hell alone and I don't want to deal with them for one more second. I know it is evil but kinder than saying "listen, you gross me out and I really do not want to talk to you". Or, more likely, i just let them order what they want and make my decision without a scene. I don't tell a woman "Watching you eat that salami slice was about as much of a turn on as a catheter." No, I just tell her that, I like her but I don't feel we're compatible. -R_
Author BenJammin Posted June 22, 2006 Author Posted June 22, 2006 Not really the same thing, but I see your point. I wouldn't compare watching tv to what amounts to an, often, ethical choice better compared to religious beleifs. -R- but since i don't feel that way, to me it's just a choice, and that has to be recognized too. we don't all fight for the same causes, and you would be surprised the amount of people who watch relaity tv religiously. that was a joke, but you know what i mean. my point is that regardless of what it was, any preference of any kind of hers i would have NO way of knowing, we had just met. so just because she sees ethics and beliefs in not eating meat doesn't mean i deserve to be talked to like i did something wrong. it's almost like you're justifying her behavior like she's allowed to act this way because she made what to HERSELF is an ethical decision.

I did tell one guy that I worshipped Satan and I was only out looking for a virgin to sacrafice...... it did not work, he seemed to get more turned on! I did so with quite a serious face and added on so much BS about being a satanist and how wonderful it was......... OMG. I am a vegetarian myself and do not get on my soap box about it. My guess she was either very young and new to the veggie scene..... or had a great desire to get rid of this guy ASAP. Either way the OP just needs to jot this experience in his book under the title "weird things that have happened in my life"
Author BenJammin Posted June 22, 2006 Author Posted June 22, 2006 like tan bark said, meat eaters don't care what other people eat. to them it's just food and that's all it should be, whose business is it what i eat? whose busniess is it what you eat? if i run around with the arms in the air because it makes me feel closer to god, and i made that decision for me, does that mean i have can yell at someone who asks me if i would liek to run with my arms down, simply because to me it is a spritual thing, and they shopuld have known? im not getting this logic that just because it's a spiritual religion-like thing for her that it makes it okay to be mean about it for no reason, especially when i didn't even f***king know!

ronnieromance Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Maybe she just knew she wouldn't like you, so she blew up in order make you go away? She didn't try to get you to become a vegertarian, did she? She just doesn't like people who support the meat industry. Look at it this way; Only your ego got bruised. No harm done. You didn't date everyone is happy. -R-
