I haven't seen my ex-fiance in three weeks and I've been a mess. I've been trying to find things to do that will take my mind off of things. I've been going to church and working out. But there's only so much working out and church you can do before you end up back at the lonely apartment staring at the floor crying, right?

Today I found a way to ease the pain of my broken heart and make better use of my free time. For the first time ever, I went SKYDIVING!! Holy crap what an incredible experience!

I went several hours ago and I'm still jacked up about it. I've been grinning from ear to ear all day! I can't wait until next weekend to go again! I know that now I'll have something to be excited about and look forward to all week.

It's not a cheap sport, but if you have the cash then get your butt to a drop zone and get your sanity back!

Oh, and "she" sent me a text message this morning telling me to be careful. A text message has got to be the most indifferent and inconsiderate form of communication besides just not calling at all. I doubt that my NC will really upset her any, but I have skydiving now so who gives a flip, right? :D

How did she know you were going skydiving in the first place? Have you been in contact with her?

Doing things for yourself that make you happy really is the key. This week, I decided to start my own business...something I've always wanted to do. Just having the courage to do it and have something to focus my energy on has been making me feel really happy.

Keep doing the skydiving, as well as pursuing any other interests and goals that you have. There's something about putting the focus on yourself that lifts your spirits automatically, I think. Good for you.

I am going to New Zealand in three weeks and I was tossing up between skydiving and bungee jumping. Skydiving it is then!! :p

Hey PA,

You have to do them both! The buzz you get from one is completely different than the other - but the adrenilin (sp?) rush is fantastic!

Try Skippers Canyon bungee, the Shotover jet and the skydive - well worth the costs involved!! (and a FANTASTIC hangover cure...man, I could do with that right now)

Ah Brandon I am so jealous!! I've been wanting to go skydiving for years, but never have a chance!! I'm glad you found something to take your mind of the ex. You have the right idea that some don't seem to get... finding a hobby, getting involved, not sitting around all day moping!! Good for you!!! :D

When we were trying to get up a group to go she was on the e-mail list. My friends are all in law enforcement and she's a prosecutor that handles our cases.

Congrats on the business! You're so right about focusing your energy on other things being such a wonderful cure for heartache! I have something to focus my attention on and look forward to instead of wallowing in my misery 24/7.

Oh, and I think that this is probably a great way to get dates!!! It's a good icebreaker.

"So, you want to go skydiving with us this weekend?"

I figure that a lot of chicks wouldn't dare consider skydiving, but you could still invite them to come watch and have a great time!

What a blast!

oh, I bet a lot of girls would love to do that. I know I would!

Don't be jealous... GO DO IT! :D

I have no clue why I didn't do this sooner. I guess that it's for a reason since having this right now is going to help me get through the hard times of my fiance leaving me.

This may even have a twofold outcome. I'll be full of life over the next months from finding a new and fantastic hobby, and I'll be exuding confidence and joy. Maybe she'll see what she's missing out on. Or maybe she won't and I can start having sex with some skydiver chick. Who knows? But I'll be having a great time anyways.

I know I really need to and just forget the excuses and just do it. I did hear its kind of expensive though and we're a little strapped for cash right now as my SO's daughter and step daughter are spending the summer at our house. (they live out of state) so money will be a little tight. Also, I have a fear of heights, and I want to go skydiving to conquer that fear!! I think the rush of the excitment plus the excitment of the fear will be euphoric!! I can't wait!!!! :D

It's not the same type of "heights." It's not like the fear of being on a ladder and looking down. I can't explain it. It's just different when you're 3 miles up.

I kept thinking I would get the sort of minor panic attack that I usually get right before the rollercoaster eases over that first large drop, but I never did. I felt calm the entire time, even when my toes were halfway over the edge of the door.

I expected my stomach to be up in my throat like a rollercoaster right as we jumped, but that never happened. It feels like you're just floating away as if you're weightless.

It's such a beautiful and exhilerating thing. When you stand at the door and look down, the world looks so clear and pristine. The air is cool and crisp and clean up there. It looks as if you're about to leap into angelic lake of purified beauty. And suddenly you're not anxious or frightened; you WANT to dive into that beautiful lake of air!

It's just something you have to DO to understand. I can not describe in words how terrific it is! :D

The way I still feel, I'd want the "chute" to not open! :(

Good job BrandonBP. I went skydiving years ago and it was a blast.

I think that there is an important lesson here, that isn't exactly about skydiving. What we need to do is create new happy memories that don't involve the ex. Get out there and do some new things, have a blast and tell stories that don't involve a broken heart. That is the best way to heal.

Sorry to tell you this, but it will probably wear out with time.. :o

Too funny RP. And sad too. If only I could get over my ex with a course of adrenaline injections...

Go try it first and then tell me that it will ever become boring! How can anyone ever get tired of flying through the air weightless? There were guys there with hundreds of jumps over several years. They still loved it.

If it does wear out at some point, say a couple of years, then didn't it still serve the purpose of making me happy and occupied while my ex was out shlobbing someone else's knob?

AND... In the meantime, it's going to make me happy, confident, and full of life! Isn't that what any future exgirlfriends are looking for in a man? ;)

Good on YOU!!!!!! ha ha thats fantastic.!!!

PINK AMULET; from a kiwi, myself............ DO BOTH!!!

Jump off that bridge whether it be the skytower, taupo or Queenstown,...... AND JUMP OUT OF THAT PLANE TOO!!!!

Ha ha, let it all go!

Well my fathers finances is the only thing preventing both. I will be doing a lot of skiing and we are visitng the fox glacier, hot springs, as well as some climbing.

I have been talked in to sky diving as the thrill isn't as short-lived!

Do you live in NZ?

I would love to do that, but I'm a big huge scaredy cat.

I love roller coasters, speedracing, and climbing.

However, the "drop" factor and fear of heights is just too much.

For instance, I scream like a maniac on the Ferris Wheel.

And I close my eyes when the roller coaster goes up real slowly.

I can't deal with it.

I can't go up escalators, (unless I'm looking up), and once I was staying on the 27th floor in NY and it took me forever just to put a toe on the balcony.

Is there hope???

Oh yeah, and I tried diving from a high diving board, and it took forever for me to jump down. The only thing that made me jump was the line up behind me.

Can i still sky dive?? I mean, do you get the "falling down" feeling??

Cause like I say, I love roller coasters, because I love the speed and craziness.

I wanna try this!! Explain how it feels, please!

You are usually free falling for about a minute, so that "falling down" feeling doesn't last the entire time, your body and mind have enough time to adjust. But it sounds as though jumping out of a plane might not be for you :p

I am not scared of heights. I rock climb, so it's a good thing I'm not!

Hehe, I saw a skydiving quote that is very true:

"If God had meant for us to skydive, He would have given us more money!"

I have been talked in to sky diving as the thrill isn't as short-lived!

I thought the whole "ride" would last about 3 minutes tops. I figured 60 seconds of freefall and about two minutes after canopy. But I was pleasantly surprised that we stayed up so long!

The instructor pulled the canopy at about 4500 feet and we must have been floating around for 10 minutes or so. When we got the the ground, the plane had already landed, loaded up another group, taken off, and was nowhere in sight!

A lot of the more experienced skydivers come down a lot more quickly because the 1) pull their canopies a lot lower to get more seconds of freefall, and 2) they like to twist and horse around under canopy which makes them fall more quickly.

But I personally thought that just floating around really slowly was so peaceful and relaxing! It was so cool to look down and see nothing but your feet hangin under you. It's like you're levitating.

Brandon and Amulet, you guys are practicaly living next door! (Only 3 hours by air plane, it's really close :D )

NO! I was so very surprised! I don't much like the rollercoater effect of feeling like my anus is in my chest and my stomach is in my mouth.

I fully expected a few seconds of this "falling down" feeling as we left the plane. But it was so cool what really happens when you leave the plane. It feels like you start floating immediately! We tumbled upside down and I could see the plane "falling" away from us. It feels similar to sitting in the dentist chair sniffing laughing gas. It's like you're just tumbling in space with no gravity. The only sense of falling that you get is the 120 mph wind blowing past and the loud noise it makes.

It is so relaxing to freefall yet so intense at the same time! I can't explain it, but it's just the most peaceful yet most excited I've ever felt.

I've reserved a spot for 8 am Saturday to do my Level 1 Accelerated Freefall class. I'll have my own chute to myself this time. Two jumpmasters will jump with me. With one holdin on to each arm, we'll all jump at once and they'll cling to me on the way down. At level I, you just try to make sure you know how to stablize yourself in freefall. Then you practice reaching for your ripcord a few times before you pull it and come down the rest of the way on your own.

Dude, I'm so excited that it almost makes me forget about my tramp exfiance sleeping with whats-his-face. I can honestly say that finding a new thrilling hobby has done wonders for my attitude. I even have my eye on a new hottie. :)

LOL, I think that it would take a lot longer than three hours to get to Aussie from Alabama. I've never been there, but I know how long it took me to fly to Tokyo and Thailand and it was a touch more than 3 hours. :)

I think she was implying that on the grounds that you live in NZ.

I'm so happy for you!!!! That's an awesome experience, both the skydiving and realizing that there are things out there that help in the moving on process :)
