why does he ignore me?

Ive been flirting with this guy for the past few months, its never got off to more than us being friends for now. Anyway, this guy seems to go through stages of either being really friendly or blatently ignoring me in public and looking awkward around me where he doesnt say anything and just looks at the floor- which just makes me think he doesnt want me to talk to him.

 

sometimes when were all in the pub together he just watches me from across the room with a distant look on his face and other times when i go up to speak to him he walks away!

 

my friends all seem to think he really likes me, but i think im getting mixed signals, what should i do??

is he more flirty when he's drinking? I just met a friend of a friend, and when he's drinking, he seems more interested than when he's not. So either he has beer goggles on or he let's his guard down more after a few drinks. Either case, if he cant make a move while sober, i'm not interested.
