STLguy Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I made a thread not too long ago looking for advice on what to buy my GF for her BDay. I went shopping today and found good deals on two purses, so I bought both with the intention of returning one. Which of these two purses do you think a girl who is turning 20 with a more classy style of dress would like the best? This Dooney & Bourke in the wheat color - http://store.dooney.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpSctDspRte.jsp?section=19336 Or this Coach - http://www.coach.com/assets/product_images/thumbnail/6266_SKHCH_t.jpg I bought both for around 130 because I found a store that went out of business. My GF and I have only been dating 6 months, but she spent right around 150 on my Bday between the nice dinner she took me to and the gift she got me. I really don't want her to think I'm spending way too much on her, so do you think this would be over doing it, or would it not really matter? Would you be happy receiving this gift, or would you prefer something else from your BF? Thanks!

I love the Coach. Just make sure its authentic!!
Guest Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I know both the coach and the dooney are authentic as both are wrapped in original wrappings and have the serial numbers and everything.
kitkat826 Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I would say the Coach. The wheat color of the first one looks a bit sickly to me. Coach is more classic and more easily recognizable (unless she's really into D&B and has talked about that bag before).
Sand&Water Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 In my opinion, I'd say Coach too. It's a very lovely colour. Simple, yet girly hand bag. But I must say, that's a hefty amount of money to spend. I suppose, for love people tend to go over and beyond the limit.
Guest Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Funny, I liked the D&B bag better but I suppose a lot has to do with what colors she wears - if she wears a lot of reds and pinks, forget it. The Coach bag is probably more versatile - would go with more.
Noos Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 No way. Coach is ubiquitous and dull. It's a show off fashion item and most people will assume it is fake. Dooney and Burke is more classic, tasteful and will last longer. Also, it wil go with more outfit becuase it doesn't have a pattern on it (apart from the croc texture).
RecordProducer Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Why don't you just give her both purses? Forget that "don't want her to think I spent a lot on her" BS. First of all, it rather speaks of your generosity and income level, not so much of your feelings for her. Secondly, you can tell her you got a good deal later on without telling her how much you spent if you really insist on being cheap . And lastly, she did spend $150 ands you spent $130 so why return one? Make her happy, for Christ's sake! Tell her they are fake and she will think they cost $30 both. Or even better tell her that your mom got them from your dad, but didn't like them so you're giving them to her!
ms_jnj Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 The Coach one is beautiful! And I would be delighted to get such a thoughtful and nice gift from a boyfriend...good job!
