I just started jogging about two weeks ago. I've ALWAYS gotten stiches in my sides during running, although not from any other strenuous activity.

They've lessen a bit, but does anyone have any advice as to how to prevent them? I'm working on measured breathing while I run, coinciding with my foot landing, as per something I read online.

Or maybe is it my posture I need to correct?

Try streching before you jog, and make sure you don't eat or drink anything about 2 hours before you jog.

I've been stretching- it's like I can never quite get that one muscle that leads to the stitching...

You could always try EXTREME STRECHING! Also known as Yoga :p .

I would want someone to confirm this, but I have heard that dehydration can cause side stitches. You might try drinking more water. Of course, if you're already drinking lots of water, then that's really no help... just a suggestion.

Right, thats true, but having too much liquid in your belly when you jog will also cause them.

So, don't drink while jogging, or right before or anything.

This article says that side stitches are caused by shallow breathing, and are contractions of the diaphragm. To my knowledge you can't stretch your diaphragm, and this wouldn't have anything to do with your water intake. It's a cool article, I hadn't seen that site before. I'm going to look around some more...
