Is there any activity you don't do anymore because of a past romantic relationship with someone. Any particular place you don't go to anymore? Any song you don't listen to anymore? Any activity you don't do anymore?

 

Sort of like that restaurant or song or activity was only for you two and you could never do it with another partner.

 

I ask because summertime is coming and I was looking at the upcoming concerts in Detroit. This one band comes every year and I used to go see them every summer with this woman.

 

I can't see them this year :(

You should go anyway. I went to Europe with a boyfriend when I was in my 20's. I didn't think I could ever go back to Paris but I decided when I met my husband that I wanted to re-write my Paris memories and went with him. We made new memories together. And now, when I think of Paris, I think of my time there with him and not the ex.

 

Ok, to answer your question. Car races and tent camping. NEVER again! WooHoo!

Sure there is!

 

Haven't been to an Al-Anon meeting or councilor's office in years … :D

 

But if it were something I actually enjoyed doing, I wouldn't allow the residual toxicity from a past relationship to spoil that joy for me. As a matter of fact, it would give me cause to go and enjoy it even MORE … absent the kill-joy that almost ruined it for me the first time around. ;)

Good things? I don't do several things any more that I used to do with my ex-H, but that's because I don't have to...

 

I don't go to this one bar in my college town because it reminds me of a boy who broke my heart. I also don't like to listen to Build me up Buttercup and I'm not a huge fan of karaoke.

Is the band playing anywhere else other than Detroit? Why not go to another City and see them play! Just to change the scenery. You love this band, I say spice it up abit, grab a buddy of yours or one of your brothers and GO have fun. Don't let this woman from your past ruin it for you. Make NEW memories and associate the band with someone or somewhere else. You're losing out by allowing the avoidance to take over.

 

My ex from waaaay back when listened to Boston. Actually, we would makeout to their music! That is and has been one of my all time favourite bands. Took me a very long time to listen to their music without thinking of him. Now, it's not an issue anymore. I won't let it be.

I am concious and alert all the time. I am on-guard. I don't trust. I'm suspicious.

 

I don't let something special be taboo just because a guy and I broke up.

Yes, its hard to be reminded sometimes of what was and isn't anymore. BUT, I'm stubborn and I wont allow anyone to control me.

There is a little cantonese take out-eat in restuarnt not far from where I work. My Xbf and I use to go there at least once a week. It was OUR special place.. It only has 5 small tables in it and sits back in a corner of a strip mall-you wouldn't even know it was there unless you stumbled across it or was told about it.

I haven't taken another man there yet though I visit it at least once every two weeks for a lunch break. I will take another man there someday if I meet the right one. The food is awesome..

Isn't that funny how certain songs or bands always have a strong connection to someone or something.

 

The Outfield and Air Supply are that way for me.. :lmao: Very powerful groups that bring me back to my first love..

It's natural to be like that at first but like other posters have said, when it comes to things that I really enjoyed no relationship has stopped me from continuing them (eventually).

 

There's a really beautiful park one of my ex's and I used to go to at night a few times a week. I avoided it like the plague for about a year after we broke up but now I go almost as often as I did with what'shisface w/o even flinching. Another guy happens to live in a neighborhood where several of my favorite stores are all in close proximity ~ pfft, the hell if I don't still go there to shop! ;)

Ditto. I also have a problem with concerts and I listen to more obscure music so the venues are small. Surprisingly, so far I've only run into one of the exs once. I guess they're too busy with their girlfriends to go to shows now so it's all mine. I still avoid some bands. I was also terrified to go visit my hometown for a long time.

naah!...i'm not that big a fan really. it was just fun to go with her. it was an annual ritual :laugh:

Not me. I live my life like the ex never existed. i refuse to let a bad relationship from the past control my life in the least bit. Can't wait for summertime concerts.:cool:

but i don't want to go to it....its not like I miss it. Its a special thing just us two shared. The band is Chicago. Ugh, I can believe I just admitted that. Alpha your'e going soft :laugh:

Chicago. Don't worry about it! They're a great band! I like 'em too! Mind you, I've not seen them in concert.......Though I have seen Duran Duran afew times! hehe..

they're excellent live in concert. They came a few yrs ago with Earth Wind & Fire...great show.
