How did you meet your current significant other? (Or an ex, doesn't matter.)

I've tried a variety of things to meet guys....sports events (Mariners and Sonics :) ), events on campus where I go to graduate school (small program, all married men), bookstores, the gym, work, school, the grocery store (haha)...I'm not finding and guys my roughly in my age range (I'm 23) I'd be interested in. That means guys that are well blanced, normal to good looking, kind and intelligent. Basicially what every woman is looking for! Oh yeah, and I really don't do the bar scene anymore.

So give me your ideas, tell me your stories! I'm all ears. Hmm...or all eyes, I suppose. ;)

I met the girl I'm currently seeing at a club. She's not my SO yet so I'll have to keep you updated on how it turns out. I know the stigma attached behind bars and clubs but I seriously don't think it's all that bad. At least the place is enriched with single people.

I think there is nothing wrong w/ bars and clubs when it comes to meeting an SO. Things seem to be going well MadDog, congrats, and good luck.

I met my current bf (of only 2 months but it's all great so far) through a guy who was seeing my friend (the guy went to school with the guy im seeing now). We hardly knew eachother when we went on our first date but it was awesome.

It happened. On January 2, 1992 I reported in at a new agency headquarters to fill a newly formed position they'd never had before. That morning I was taken around the building to meet the 150 people working there. One of the last stops was the Office of Legislation. The Legislative Liaison wasn't in but the Legislative Aide was. She was less than warm or friendly, curtly acknowledged me and looked at my like someone would look at a bug under a microscope. A little voice sounded off in my head and said, "I'll fix that!" I always did love a challenge.

A few months later I was assigned, by her, a legislative analysis of an important bill going through the Legislature at the time. I'd never done one before but did it well nonetheless. Mare and more assignments poured in and soon I found myself a part of bill writing sessions at the Capitol and testifying before policy and fiscal committees during hearings. Reluctantly, I became a full-fledged legislative, politial and public policy analyst, all thanks to that strange, exotic and compelling woman in the Leg. Office.

Four years later she promoted out of the agency and into another involved in the same policy area. and because we knew one another and had become working friends over the year, I became a policy consultant to them on the side and we saw one another fairly regularly. A year after that I asked her out and we've now been married almost 10 years.

Some of the best times were when we were both working the same bill through the Legislature for our respective agencies with one of us in support and the other in opposition. Ah, the pillow talk. Unfortunately, she retired a few years ago and I'm now the manager of a legislative office in another agency and different policy area.

Those were the days!

I've known my guy (not my SO yet) since we were younger. I met him when I was 15-16 years old and our mom's are good friends. Plus he lives like 2 houses down from my mom's house. We just started dating! :p

My ex I met through my friends at the time.

My other BF I've met all through friends.

I met my bf at a coffee shop. My bf ® and his brother TJ would go have coffee on the weekends and sit and talk. I actually knew TJ from years and years ago, and although very definitely NOT my type, he was still fun to talk to. So one day both of them were in there and I went and sat with them. I asked TJ if he'd come out to the bar with me that night, I was bored, had no one else to hang out with, and he was safe. I was trying to get him to call into work to hang out, and he kept saying he couldn't. So R casually states he's free that night. 'Course, then I tried to back out of the whole thing. Started making up excuses for why I couldn't go.... (I didn't know him, and I'm really freaked about mixing strangers and beer.)

Finally R says "I know you really want TJ's hot body, but maybe I could be your second choice for the evening." (If you saw TJ, ick. He'd make a blind person wanna gag.:o ) It was funny 'cause TJ really thinks he's hot stuff.

So we meet up at the bar later that evening. It was kind of awkward at first, but he could talk about anything, and had the greatest sense of humor. We were sitting there for a while, and pretty soon my brother shows up with his group of friends. I was going to introduce them but then my brother starts yelling out to him. Find out they've known each other for 15 years or so.

Little back story, my brother is very...uh... charismatic, and usually very demanding of attention. For some reason people refer to him as though he were some major star attraction in this city and I have never gone a day where someone hasn't made a point of refering to my brother as though he were a higher being. I'm really not making this up.

As soon as I found out that they knew each other I was ready to leave. Figured it'd be an entire night of this guy trying to beg for the attention of my brother while I sat around staring at people who were having fun.... But R was polite, and then turned his full attention back to me. I was shocked. Every other guy who'd ever met my brother had ended up begging for his attention. Like it's some kind of status symbol to date me because I'm this guys sister... woo hoo. go me.

So R and I have a great time, laugh and talk, and everything's going great. It was getting really late so were walking back to our cars to go home, I'm holding his hand and being stupid drunk... When out pops my exH from behind a door frame and grabs my arm. There was a group of people standing around outside and he'd been one of them.. Then this part becomes very hazy... but I know he was screaming at me for being with another man, and something about how I was too drunk, and he was going to "rescue" me from this scum bag who only wanted me for sex. I run off screaming and crying, don't have the foggiest idea what happened to R at that point. Drove home and fell asleep.

Next morning I wake up, sicker then a dog, and all I can think is R is NEVER going to call me again. Ever. I was so embarressed. First my brother threatening R if he hurts a hair on my head, then a crazy ex, all on the first date, and then your date turns into a blithering ball of tears... whatever. I'd never call that person back.

He called the day after, asked if I was alright. Said he had a really good time, up until the psycho ex, and wanted to know if I was up to playing pool.

And after every single date, he'd call to make sure I got home okay, and to tell me thank you and he had a good time. It was sweet.

Probably the perfect place for some single ladies to go to meet a bunch of guys. Why is there no counterpart venue for guys to go to to meet a bunch of girls?

Speed dating. Swear to God. Speeddating that I went to on a dare from an ex, and he had to pay me twenty bucks in the bargain. That was a GREAT night.

It was one of those things where you stand in rows and meet like twelve or fifteen people, depending on how many people show up and you can leave notes or whatever for the people you felt you clicked with, and the service passes those notes on (I ended up with a date with the guy that's now my bf by the end of the night, so the note thing is not always necessary), and it's none of that embarrassing "you matched with no one!" shame. very laid back.

I'd always made fun of stuff like speeddating and whatever before - then I did it, and there were actually like nice, normal guys there - some, less desirable than others - but it turned out to be really fun, and I ended up with a totally sweet, attentive, old fashioned, normal actually holds doors open for you guy from it!

I'm a big fan of it now ;)
