leopardprint Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Alright, who out there has experience with it? Cons and Pros? Anyone know of any other type of braces that you can't see that might work better? Long story short: I had braces when I was 11, had them for four years, had my parents take them out right before I got into highschool, never wore my head-gear, rubberbands, or retainer. For the past three years, my teeth have suddenly started to shift. It's getting more and more noticeable as the years ago by. They were fine for a LONG time, but they just suddenly started to shift and now have been getting progressively worse these past couple years! Now I'm looking for a way to get them back to the way they were, without getting the whole mouth of metal again. I talked to my dentist, and she actually provides the Invisalign treatment at her office. She told me my teeth would probably only need them for a year and a half, if even that, because they're really not that bad (it's really just my front, lower 6 teeth getting all bunched together, and my top, front teeth pushing back). I'm wondering if anyone has any personal experience with this kind of situation.
Bogun Posted April 24, 2006 Posted April 24, 2006 Alright, who out there has experience with it? Cons and Pros? Anyone know of any other type of braces that you can't see that might work better? I haven't used it, but from what I know there is no better way to get your teeth straightened unless you're prepared to get braces. Even if you didn't mind looking like a freak as an adult, invisalign would probably still be better as you don't have to worry about avoiding certain foods. From what I understand, you take the mould out before you eat and you have to brush your teeth after every meal before you put the mould back in. Apparently there's a slight discomfort for a few days every time you get the thing changed, as it gradually shifts your teeth, I guess the same as tightening braces. The biggest down side is the cost. Where I live, invisalign costs around 10K. No I'm not joking. It might be less in the US though. But if money is not an issue for you then its the best way to go.

Yeah, the reason why I want the Invisaligns mainly is because they're INVISABLE! My friend had them for months before I EVER realized she ever had them in!
gfto Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 I had this done about 4 or 5 years ago. I was very pleased with it. Like you, I wore braces in high school, but by my late 20s, some teeth were beginning to shift. I think the invisalign treatment came out to $3,500 or so. In essence, they use a computer to map out how they want to move your teeth. Then, the make a series of invisible trays. You wear each tray for two weeks. Normally, when you put in a new tray, your teeth will hurt for a few days, just like when you got your braces tightened. Then, it subsides. They are indeed invisible!
