Have you ever tried one of those on line dating sites? I did a while back and really didn’t like it much. I found people kind of rude and plastic. Probably because they could hide behind the anonymity part of the process.

So last night I heard an ad on the radio promoting one of the sites. I decided to make up a profile that would describe a very average lady in her early 40’s. Nothing too flashy or exciting and also included a couple of kids. I added a picture that looked like someone in their early 30’s that was kind of cute but not drop dead gorgeous

As of this evening there were 265 hits on the ad and about 20 messages. In one day!!

I’m guessing the average guy gets about 10% of that exposure.

So let me get this straight. You didn't like the online dating sites when you tried it for real because you found it to be a waste of your time (e.g. the people were rude.) So you decided to waste other people's time by putting up a fake profile? What purpose did that serve?

Ummm, let me see. Simple entertainment I guess.

That's because:

1. Women assess men in MANY different categories, most likely by having a potential long-term relationship in mind and thus analyzing every detail so they eliminate lots of men from their lists.

2. Women usually expect men to approach them first.

Men, on the other hand, would hit on and bang everything that is cute, regardless of whether she has 5 kids, emotional baggage or is drowning in financial dept.

No use denying it--you know it's true. :)

Since I wrote my first post on the topic to now it has gone from 265 to 308 hits!!

And to think that I had 60 in a month.

Nope! Not this man. I'm not and have never been that needy. Yuck!

All the people viewing your phoney profile are people doing testing with their phoney profiles

I know men who are like you, but you must admit most men would jump on a hot ass' profile like flies on s*** without even reading the rest of the profile. :)

Details like:

1. Is he tall

2. Does he make a lot of money

Details like: height, weight, education, number of children, marital status, income, job position, then hidden details like his writing style, what he tells about himself, does he sound narcissistic or sweet or fake etc. Then what he wants in a woman and what type of relationship he's looking for.

For example, a woman might be turned off by a guy stating: "I will NOT respond to anyone who has no picture on their profile!" Or his essay says: "I'm a fun loving guy that loves to party."

RP,

re: " For example, a woman might be turned off by a guy stating: "I will NOT respond to anyone who has no picture on their profile!" Or his essay says: "I'm a fun loving guy that loves to party."

More 'turn-offs':

A profile pic that you know is at least ten years old.

A profile that has any mention of a Harley bike in it.

A profile that says "I'm believing God, to send me the right woman".

A profile that says "I'm almost divorced, so I can't show my picture just yet...but I'll send you one if you're interested."

A profile that has any mention of " just an ol country boy" or " I just live my life real simple" or " I'm just lookin' for a good, down to earth woman" or " I prefer a woman who doesn't wear makeup" .

A profile that uses the phrase "from jeans to an evening gown" or "I like the beach" (one more time and I'll puke.)

A profile that begins with " I've never done this before..." or "I'm new at this".

A profile that ends with "..And if you don't like dogs, please don't bother."

Anyone think of any more?

I'm not sure because I've never checked out an online dating site but what would scare me off in a girl's profile would be something like:

"I'm looking for an ambitious, successful man." (Gold-digger)

"I have a wild side." (Crazy)

"I love to party." (Alcoholic)

"I'm your girl next door." (Unattractive)

"I love kids." (Desperate)

"I'm a highly educated professional woman." (Snobby)

"Looking for a good time." (Has a boring life)

"I'm old fashioned." (Prude)

"I'm Jessica Alba." (Fine, this one would be okay)

OK so I had posted an profile for a fairly average looking woman who would have looked good for her age.

I posted another profile of a really good looking guy with a fairly average profile. But he was really hot.

Sorry guys but the average looking woman has 600 hits in 20 hours and the good looking guy has 60. Either the website has 100 times more guys or they are just way more desperate than the women on the site.

So the rumors are true. The internet really does consist only of fat, middle aged bald dudes living in their mom's basements. This sucks.

My "lady" has had some nice compliments from some very strange guys. If you are normal at all you would have no trouble standing out in the on-line dating world.

I did this once with a girlfriend of mine when Excite personals were still free. Identical profiles (except the sex)--very basic 40 yr old recently divorced two kids looking to get back in the dating scene. No photos, no innuendos or anything. We created similar hotmail accounts ABC123 and DEF@ hotmail and let er rip. Her position was that a guy would get more hits. I said no way.

A week later, she had close to 1000 replies--legitimate ones. I had nearly 100 and most were for porn sites, penis pumps, or escort services--not a single legitimate reply. Now hers were mostly legitimate many including photos of faces, kids, and of course the obligatory penis.

My point was made. Then we had fun. Sucked down a few bottles of wine and responded to them all--and you thought Simon Cowell could be brutal. Oh my god, look at that pittiful excuse for a dick, go find someone else--was a typical comment. But you know what-they came back....you know I am really a good lover if you only give me a chance. It was hysterical!
