HokeyReligions Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 My stress has been so high the past few months. My BP is off the charts even with medication and when I get stressed I develop a rash on the tops of my hands. This is going to sound yuckky, but I sat down today and it hurt! I apparently am developing a boil on my tushy. I asked the pharmacist about it and she said it is almost certainly stress-related (and my pharmacist knows me and my health better than my doctor) and gave me some ointment, but she said that if it gets worse I may have to have in lanced. I've never had a boil before - I thought I sat on a burr. "Honey, look at my butt. Not THAT way!" I have got to find a way to reduce the stress but I don't know how! I've tried every relaxation technique you can think of - including getting a massage which made me feel worse because I don't like to be touched. Meditation, diversion, deep breathing, yoga, exercise, hot showers, cold showers, forcing myself to focus on playing with my dogs (which has always worked for me before), writing, reading, crafting, talking, aroma therapy, sound and light therapy (can't remember what that was called) but I don't know what else to do. This is bad that the stress is causing me to have an actual physical reaction. My hair is noticbly more grey too -- I've had three people comment on it.
TUDOR Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Often people try to escape their stress by masking it with relaxing moments like a massage, playing with pets, walks, etc, etc....only to come back full circle to the stress. Much like putting an air freshner in a room full of fish. The only true way to rid yourself of the oder is to work on getting rid of the fish. Not sure what is causing your stress or if it is even feasable to remove them from your life but masking them with relaxing moments will simply bring you back full circle. Sorry about the boil though, that can't be comfortable.
quankanne Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Do y'all still have your pool? Would swimming laps help? Since you're an animal lover, maybe doing volunteer work at a place that trains guide dogs or something might help alleviate stress some. A good cry helps somewhat, too ...
littlekitty Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Hokey, I'd highly recommend Reiki Healing. There's no touching needed, and it is very effective. I use it for both stress relief and general health. In the four years I have been having it, I no longer need my inhalers that I used to have daily. I used this a lot when I lost my father a couple of years ago and was unhapy at work and in my personal life. I was so stressed it was coming out in my skin in eczema. The Reiki definately helped. It might seem a weird thing... but please consider it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reiki
