Hi All--

This is the first time I've posted on this thread, but I am trying to get myself back into shape.

I see several different opinions on eating 2-3 hours before sleep- one arguement is that your metabolism naturally slows down towards the end of the day and you should not eat after 7 pm or so....

on the other hand, if you look at glucose levels, etc...there is an arguement that eating a snack before bedtime will prevent a major drop in glucose levels...keeping insulin levels steady (like the Zone diet)....

anyway, I wondered what people's opinions/experiences on the subject are.

Thanks!

I can't sleep if I'm hungry. I usually have hot chocolate (made with real milk - 1% - and Nestle's Quik - not that chemical/hydrogenated oil junk) and maybe a cookie or two or a couple of crackers. And I have no trouble with my weight at all. I also eat breakfast within an hour of rising and try to be sure I don't go more than four hours without food. I don't think it's as much about the time you eat but the type of food you eat; if I had a bag of chips or a few doughnuts before bed, I'd gain weight, too. Breakfast is a couple of slices of whole-grain toast and milk or juice - having light, healthy meals and snacks is the trick, IMHO.

The rule of thumb is you should eat your largest meal at breakfast. Your body has time to burn these calories during the day and your smallest meal should be at dinner before 7 pm. You can have a light snack at bedtime but make it low calorie and light so your body is not working while you sleep.

In regards to weight:

The amount of calories you eat per day, and

The amount of calories you burn per day,

Determines your weight.

Timings of your meals I believe is irrelevant, and I eat my biggest meal of the day just before I go to bed at night.

Makes me sleep well going to bed after a big meal and helps the recovery process especially if you train in the afternoons.

But what ever floats your boat I guess, there is so many theories in regards to this subject its rediculous.
