Stryfeno12 Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Ok. I’m trying to gain some muscle and at the same time put on some weight. I’m wondering which is better between weight gainers or the 100% whey proteins. I’m on the weight gainer now and I did put of couple of pounds and seen some muscle growth but I’m not building muscle fast enough. My question is should I switch to the whey protein to see a better result or stick with the weight gainer. Also what kind of exercises should I do to build chest muscle?
jonnie5 Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 You need to be taking whey protein for sure. To gain lean muscle mass, you need to consume about one gram of protein per pound of body weight. Eat things like chicken, salmon, egg whites, and turkey. These foods have the best protein source. Yogurt and cottage cheese are good also. You also need to increase your calorie intake. Use your protein shake immediately following your workouts. For building chest muscles, do barbell and dumbell flat bench, incline bench, and flys. Do not worry about taking the weight gainer. If you eat 5-6 meals a day and get enough protein, you will see good results.
MattB Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 do you care what kind of muscle you build or do you just want "bulk"? Don't get caught up in the "must gain weight to build muscle trap". You can gain either fat or muscle and they do not convert back and forth. So if you gain a bunch of fat to "bulk up", you will just have to work harder to burn it back off to make those muscles you've been building visible. So just make sure you are eating enough long chain carbs during the day to sustain your exercise and that you are consuming protein and carbs in a 3:1 (carb:protein) ratio immediatly after working out and then again an hour later to ensure proper muscle recovery. Having plenty of protein is very important, but having it at the right time is just as critical.
