I work for a newspaper and was notified today by the weather service that we are in for some doozies tonight. The email said "Conditions are grim."

Err.. what exactly does that mean?!

Are you scared of storms or do you go outside and watch them?

Posted

I love storms, and yeah, I go outside to watch them, but I live in Seattle so there's nothing to worry about.

In another case; just the other day I turned on the TV, and the news is talking about how western Tennessee was hit hard by tornados (my parents live there) So that freaked me out. Everything is fine and they're ok, but in a situation like that, I'd be heading for the basement.

I love them. I watch them all the time.

When I was younger I lived in tornato alley in Chicago and my grandma used to get all us kids freaked out.

She was in a tornado that destroyed the cabin they were in and was so hysterical she had to be sedated so she made us kids scared of thunderstorms.

My Grandpa said enough is enough and starting taking us out on the covered porch to watch the storms roll in we counted the ligthening and thunder and eventually we weren't scared anymore.

I now watch stroms because it reminds me of my pap and the time I had spent with him growing up.

Now in a tornado watch we go to the basement.

No she stayed in the house and watch us from the door and when she started to get anxoius he'd tell her to calm down or got sit down.

Eventually she did start coming outside but it took years and years and she never stayed long.

I love storms too!!

We lived in east Tx. when Rita (was it Rita after Katrina?) came thru so we were like right in her path. My mom and gramma were omg freaking out, I was having a blast. I couldn't watch it cuz we were staying away from winders, but I loved hearing the wind howl and the rain pounding against the house. Thankfully we didn't get too much damage, altho it did shatter the glass on our back screen door and snapped our swing stand that had a grapevine growing on it in half. OH, and knocked our electricity out for a day, now THAT part sucked!! Thank goodness it brought a cold front with it or we would have been burning up!!

Hey TA, isn't it scary how things just *snap* apart in storms. Scary!

By the way, we didn't get the brundt of the storm here. It was scary for a while though. My son was just beside himself the whole time. Needless to say, he collapsed in bed around 9:00. He just pooped out.

Very scared of storms hate them and look for them to pass us by!! Hate hurricane and tornado season .

It's scary but strangely exciting. I felt like I was in another Twister's movie.

My son was only like 6 months or so and couldn't sleep cuz every time he'd drift off something woudl crash or there would be a really loud thunder and it would jar him awake, so needless to say, I didn't get much sleep that night. If it wasn't for that, I'd have slept just fine.

The scary thing was there was a tree in my bf's yard that was completely uprooted!! And countless strees in our neighborhood that were the same. Now that is some strong a$$ wind!!

Sassy, you have *both* seasons? I can barely handle just one. I would think that hurrican season would be the scariest!

Yea TA, we get alot of uprooted trees around these parts, too. Haven't had on uprooted in my backyard though! I do have a small forest of really tall trees right by my house!

A_C, I had a customer come in my work the other day.. he looked a mess! His allergies were getting the best of him, and he refuses to take any meds. He said the medication side-affects were worse than having the allergies.

As far as storms getting rid of pollen, I would think that they would stir it all up & make things worse. Huh.. interesting. :)

The rain washes it out of the trees and down the storm drains.. Without rain the pollen storms would go on forever

I agree! Have you priced Claritin lately? Unbelievable. It's like, $10 for 5 pills.
