BlossomingMama Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Does anyone out there homeschool? Do you have any advise? I have just begun homeschooling my daughter. So far, so good. I would really appreciate any thoughts, information, etc that you can give me on this. For the record. I have not chosen to homeschool because of religious reasons, but instead because of continued BS from the school. We are homeschooling in affiliation with the district so her education is carefully monitored, and I hope tho have her ready to go back into public school by Jr. High. Also, please don't lecture me on socialization. We have that area covered. Thanks in advance.
inconsiderado Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 yeah, people that don't believe in evolution...
ali0812 Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I was homeschooled for 4 years... 4th grade through 8th. I honestly think it did me a lot of good.... I was also in things like girl scouts and sports and I play the violin so I was in orchestras and things like that so I still met other kids and was a pretty sociable person. That I think is the biggest problem with it, a big part of getting to know yourself and growing up is socializing yourself with other people your age. But I think it was good because my mom had a whole lot more supervision over it and I wasn ever introduced to drugs or sex or anything like that at a young age so I never did any of it! By the time I got into highschool I knew who I was and I knew I wanted no part of it, so no matter how many people pressured me, I still said no. I do think though that it was good I actually went to school for high school. I learned a lot and there is a lot I would have missed out on that you need before you go to college, or you will be lost!
Tim'sAngel Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Hello Blossom! I don't mean to be the negative one... but I was homeschooled for almost all my life and it affected me negatively in social areas so I am not a big fan of the idea. It seems that won't be a problem for you (my parents didn't really go about that the right way) And with all the crazyness going on in public school I guess sometimes you just don't have a choice. One thing I'd advise you to be careful on is that it's very easy to become lazy, for ex. "Oh we wanted to plan a small vacation, we'll just let her off these 3 days" ... "Oh I've got errands to run today, I"ll just let her let her catch up tomorrow." Find a good routine and stick with it!! OH.. and hide the answer books somewhere above reach!! I found my mothers and copied the answers for half a year w/out anyone finding out:lmao: Whick coriculum (sp?) are you guys using?
luvtoto Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Well, I..uh.. Also, please don't lecture me on socialization. We have that area covered. If you got that covered, my point no longer needs to be made.
