Hello, Iam a 17 year old male. Iam a senior in high school. Ill be graduating june 1st and i want to slim down for graduation and prom really quick if possible. Well i finaly got fed up with my weight and want to do something about it. I think my weight has something to do with my self esteem also, since i have notice a differnce since i started puting on weight. Girls talk to me less. Im more shy than i was in freshman year. hell im starting to get man boobs. I think the reason i put on weight is because 1) not getting enough sleep 2) not doing enough activites. My problem is i dont know anything about dieting, except the normal eat less and work out more.

Here is some info on me: 6'0, 240. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Okay...Basically you can do a few little things that might help you... Drink alot of water, I mean about 64 oz. a day. That will help flush out your system. Try eating more fruits and veggies and less bread, crackers, and junk food.

Diets are hard work... and they are a way of life... Believe me I know all about them.

Yes you should be eating 3 meals a day. That is very important.

For example:

Breakfast

Eat a bowl of cereal or oatmeal, or eggs

Eat a serving of fruit

Eat a serving of Diary

Lunch

Do whatever here... but be careful...

Dinner

Eat a smaller portion

Eat a serving of veggies

Eat a serving of salad

Salad and Veggies are important. Exercising is very important too... Don't try to do too much at once... Maybe ever other day at first, then do a little every day. Make sure you get the water in you. If you are drinking regular soda switch to diet. Lower your sugar intake and I think you can drop some lbs. before prom.

yea, what has been said so far. Take in the bulk of your calories during the day and just enough during dinner to get you through the night. If you get hungry before bed eat some carrots or drink a glass of milk. That way you are burning all your dietary calories instead of allowing them to be stored as fat during the night.

Also like was mentioned, avoid sugar and WHITE bread flour at all cost. Whole wheat and whole grain breads are okay and encouraged as they are high in good carbs and other nutrients. The key sugar to avoid is HFCS or high fructose corn syrup. If you look at a timeline of obesiety and diabetes rates in america there is an obvious point where they begin to rise. That rise coincides with the introduction of government subsidies on corn (which made HFCS the primary form of sugar used in foods...it was now cheaper). It's bad stuff...just say no.

So just watch what and how much you are eating and keep working out. When you work out, keep your HR low. Push too hard and you stop burning fat and start burning another substance called glycogen which is stored in your muscles. So when running you need to be able to hold a conversation. If you can't, then you are going to hard.

Also realize that fat will not melt off overnight. The only thing that will do that is water weight, and it will come back just as fast as it came off.
