Body builders don't just do weights, they do steriods as well. You can't bulk up without changing your body chemistry. I'm not sure why people think that's true. It's silly, really.

I never do any less than an hour of cardio. I have been working out a long time. 30 minutes is kind of a waste for me. It's barely enough time to get my heart rate up.

I think men who say they aren't attracted to super skin and bones girls are just trying to make us pudgier girls feel better about ourselves. I also think that diet obsessed girls are less fun personality-wise (I know I am when I'm crazy dieting). I genuinely believe that men prefer BOAS (Boobs on a stick  ) but there just aren't that many of them.

I don't mean to sound stupid or anything, but what does boobs on a stick mean? :o

Eh, I've done yoga, it really doesn't do anything for me. It's hard, and it's very relaxing, but I'm already in the gym for an hour and a half, I don't want to add another hour to that. I don't mind lifting weights, I would actually rather do weights than cardio. It doesn't make me bulky, but it gives me really cool tone. I have that ball on my shoulder, I love that. Weights making women bulky is actually a myth. You need steroids to do that.

Well I'm just saying. I'm short, and have the potential to be stocky, and I noticed in my own body that I got bulkier when I was lifting weights all the time. I was doing that for like 2 years before I switched to yoga and pilates and I actually have grown 3/4 of an inch since I started.

I'm just. saaaaaying! Say it's a myth all you want, I am only speaking from my personal experience.

This is why ballet dancers and dancers in general DO pilates....to avoid the bulkiness that you get from weightlifting and still retain strength and agility. I've never worked out to look a certain way - I always do it to improve my body's ability to perform.

So I am very utilitarian about the types of exercises I do. Ballet dancers have traditionally worked out with pilates for like over a hundred years because they figure this out in practice.

Bulkiness is not an increase in the total muscle mass -- when I use that word I am referring specifically to the types of muscles you use with weight lifting -- which traditionally only works out the big muscle groups -- those muscles get bubbly and round, like the "coconut shoulder" You refer to.

When you do yoga or pilates or martial arts or gymanstics or dance -- you use different muscle groups -- the tiny ones that help with balance and stability. Those muscles don't get big like the large muscle groups do. And that's what helps you get the long, lean look.

But it's preference really. I think people tend to be more geared towards the types of exercise that were fashionable when they started exercising. I just happened to start seriously working out around the time that yoga and pilates was popularized, so I like it much better and the body type that you can get from that type of workout.

Jeez girl you must be fit. I've been training at least 6 years at a good level, and when I'm trying to get bikini fit I'll only go up to 40 mins cardio 3x a week!!!

Yeah the drugs in BB is terrible. It's disturbing to look at these women who have take the growth hormone and how even their faces have grown and changed. They get gaps in their teeth where their jaw grows and so on...

Weights definitely do not help with agility. I'm not talking about slightly bulking up. I hear women say all the time that if they lift weights they'll turn into a man. That's a myth.

I'm a little stocky naturally, so it makes the bulk look toned. Perhaps if I joined a pilates studio and got with some more hard core pilates folks I'd do better. But fiscally that's not an option for me.

I did yoga/pilates classes at the gym combined with cardio for about 2 months as a test. I noticed that I lost muscle tone and gained fat. Didn't work for me at all. Like I said, crappy genes. That's also why I have to do cardio for an hour or more to get the same results that most normal people get after 30 minutes. CRAPPY genes. :( Crappy ones.

Oh I saw this show on Discovery Health about this female body builder, it was so awful. She was into hard core steriods and was destroying her body with the drugs and diets. It was SO SAD.

Jessica Alba :D

:( Yeah, I know. Even with cancer and a tapeworm I couldn't do that.

Dude, the thing I saw on PBS about methamphetamines was scarey. People went from chubby, even fat, to skeletal death masks.

Stop hating. Big deal your not emaciated looking , (would you want cancer and a tape worm) why would you want to be ? Oh and your not 22 anymore either , relax , everybody ages , there's nothing wrong with it. You are just you , sounds like you work pretty hard on you body, good for you , be proud of it . If Jessica Alba wants to look like a stick then so be it , thats what she prefers , she also has airbrushing in pics to add or take off a little as it may be . You don't , neither do I. Oh well , be happy with what you are and others will be too. I'm not trying to be too harsh here , but I hear women all the time talking about needing to lose weight , to look thinner , this does just as much to influence our daughters as any movie star ever will!

Big deal some guy wants to enjoy the way movie stars look , if all guys prefered that only stars would have children (only one at that) , plenty of guys prefer other types of bodies as well.

I never hated on her, I think she's gorgeous.

"You are just you" sounds like giving up. I'm not quite ready to quit and be fat and ugly just yet. Isn't 40 supposed to be the new 30?

A lot of it is in the genes. That's what makes girls like her appealing, I think. Cause you know if you have kids with her, they will get good genes too.

It's funny because recently I've been noticing I care a lot more about a girl's health than I used to (near sightedness, obesity/diabetes in the family, etc.) I wonder if I'm subconsciously ready to have a few kids. So far it's just been a bunch of pratice making them.

You are just you , ise'nt giving up . Why is the size of your ass so important . FYI , I'm not a big girl 5'8 135 lbs. curvy , 26 y/o . Fat and Ugly ? Who decides what is old ? The TV? Come On ! How could 40 be the new 30 , really? Yes we live a bit longer , but to look 30 when your 40 ? My point is that all these women fussing about looking thin to be beautiful , that being what they are striving for, that dose'nt present very well for the young women .

I'm sensitive to this b/c my sister was always told "oh your so thin , not too pretty but thin and smart too" and I was always told "oh honey your gorgeous".

Now I'm pretty happy with me , I've never dieted , but I look great , I just exersize normally , and don't worry about it . But my sister , guess what , she's no longer so thin , she's no longer 25 either ( in her thirties , with a few kids) .She's brilliant , but does she think about that , no. She wants to be thin again , because thats where her self-worth lies . Her self-worth lies there b/c as a young girl and teen the women around her put the importance there.I'm saying as women its great to take care of yourself , but lets put our own worth somewhere else , so that young women realize that they should not be dictated by pics of models in magazines , but the women around them. We can do this by not striving to be like the jessica albas of the world , but instead the Elizabeth Blackwell's .

We'll see how you feel when you're over 30 and exercising regularly doesn't cut it any more. I applaud this attitude, I felt that way when I was young too. 26? You probably think that at 34 I should be overweight, wearing polyester pantsuits and orthopedic shoes. It never occured to me either that you don't stop wanting to be attractive when you pass 30. Nothing shuts off. I agree that it's awful that our sexiness is dictated only by our looks, but that's the world I live in. Again, talk to me when you're a little older and see if you still think your sister and I should not care what we look like any more.

sexiness is also in your attitude.

Yes, it is, and it's easy for people who are perfect to have a sexy attitude. It's harder, though, when you know you're fat and pale and not attractive, to have a sexy attitude.

She's almost 33 & I'll be damned if she doesn't look better than 99% of 23 year olds I've met.

Hahahahaha, please. No I don't think that at 34 you should be overweight or wearing the ortho shoes . And I think women in their 30's 40's 50's are beautiful , they just don't look 25 anymore , why would they want to? And yes , it may be the world you live in but it dose'nt have to be the one you promote. I did'nt say you should'ent care what you look like but don't be obsessed by it either . BTW my sister has had 5 kids , she'll never be a size 2 again but shes a size 7 , and there's absolutly nothing wrong with that.

She's actually only a few months younger than me. So is Cameron Diaz.
