Yeah, but b_o, you're really young. All young bodies are beautiful. And because you're athletic, you'll probably stay that way.

It's tough when you're my age and have to compete with girls ten or more years younger. It's a lot harder for me to lose 15-20 pounds than it is for you...

How old are you CG?

It's not just dependant on age, but genes, many other things. Some women DO find it very easy to stay thin and eat what they want.

Some will have to fight the fat with diet and exercise for most of their adult lives.

But very few... very few... women or men can look fab without putting some level of effort into it. If you watch what you eat and exercise well, you can look your best.

See, Jessica Alba is the perfect example of when a guy says, oh no, I like curves. She is super super super skinny. But guys think she's even a little lazy because she has "curves." She has no body fat. She does not eat and works out and probably does coke to stay thin. But guys think that girls can look like that with no effort at all, and that all girls SHOULD look like that.

I'm sure that all the celebrities are proably doing coke to stay thin. Nicole Richie looks disgusting IMO!!!

This is it right here. I have great genes. My parents were both fit and relatively good looking well into old age. But since he hit like 65/66, my Dad has aged very rapidly. I think that's how my family just is. We look great until about 65 and then age exponentially.

The thing is, I have hips and boobs and a butt. I'm not boobs on a stick, that's fo sho'.

I have CRAPPY genes. Women on both sides of my family are short and hippy, and I have broad shoulders. I'm 5'4", so I have NO leeway. I gain weight in my hips, stomach, ass and arms. It's repulsive. At my best, I'm a 2-4, and with my new snazzy boobs I bought myself I can look pretty good, but I still have cellulite, even at that size. I'm VERY muscular, so I'm always heavy. If I get below about 125 I start to look gaunt, but at 125 I'm a small 4, so I have made my peace with that.

Let's just say mid-thirties. I can't talk about it without tearing up a little. Where did all the time go?

how is 5' 4" short? Isn't that about average height?

I think the average is about 5'6", 5'7", wouldn't you say? Perhaps I have tall friends. I see your website now, I'm not sure what your point is.

The definition of "short" is really not the issue. Shorter people show weight gain more easily. Someone who is 5'7" can gain 10 lbs and it doesn't show at all. Someone who is 5'4" cannot.

I'm kind of similar to you noos. And my weight has fluctuated enough that it's like going through an identity crisis every couple of years. I think every area is different as far as what's "acceptable" for a woman to look like and I think that's sad and a shame.

I lived in Australia and traveled all over the country. When I was there I was at my current weight. I was skinny by the standards there. It was a really strange feeling. I came back to my city and was once again fat even though my weight didn't change. Then I got on the right medication and lost weight and became normal by my city's standards. It was pretty sad because it was to the point where my friends were concerned about me and didn't want me to lose any more weight (my boyfriend at the time was kind enough to tell me that I was fat though...different standards). Now after some things happened I gained a bunch of weight and I'm back where I am post-Australia living and am back in the mindset of the fat girl. One day when I was really upset about it a friend said to me that if I was "living in the midwest or something they would consider [me] skinny". When my friends from out of town come to visit they always joke about what we call the adjustment factor. They all say that just walking down the street here makes them feel bad about themselves because they're not as skinny or pretty as everyone else who lives here. I think it's terrible, we shouldn't feel that way about ourselves because of rediculous societal standards we are all brainwashed to think is ideal.

In general people were a lot nicer to me when I was underweight than they are now that I fall in the normal range. You would think that with the proven psychological toll the corporate/commercial world would do something about it. Even though I don't support the company, I was glad to see the Dove ad campaign with regular women (although they would not be considered average by any means where I live). My only hope is that some day the powers that be will start taking notice and teaching people to accept who they are rather than villify them for being who they are not and can not be.

ok rant over.

Hee hee - I'm only 5' tall, catgirl!

Maybe it is jsut about being comfortable with yourself. You know men do not look at women's bodies the way women do.

Ok, so you're only five years older than myself roughly. I'm 30.

Sorry to make you teary by asking!! :bunny:

I'm 5'2", and well to be honest probably closer to a UK size 8 than a 6 right now. So I guess that would make me closer to a 10 than 8 in the US huh?

If that's right... then boy o boy you must be skiiiiiiiny!!! 'Cos there is no way on earth anyone in their right mind could call me fat.......

Although I'm confused... I only weigh about 112 lbs, so how come I'm like at least a dress size bigger... weird!!!!

I always thought UK sizes were bigger than US sizes. Like a 8 in the UK is a 6 in the US. I'll have to look at some of my Brittish clothes when I get home.

Silly littlekitty got it wrong.... :o:laugh::D

Sorry!! Yep KC is right! That does make more sense then!!

I find this too!

See, b_o, short isn't really a problem. Little is fantastic, but weight gain shows more on little people.

Oh I'm short too catgirl. Only 5'3.

I have a lot of muscle mass, and I lift weights. So I'm heavier, just because of the way I'm built.

sizes really don't count. clothing makers can be as far as 2-3 inches off in waist size with other makers.

Funny if you shop in the high end clothing stores(needless markups/ neiman marcus) you will wear a much smaller size then if you shop at wally world. I would have to think that it is a way to make woman want to buy more of that line because it is labeled a smaller numbered size.

I would prefer if they did it the Mens way...... waist and inseam size labeled.

I am 5'4" plenty tall enough for my satisfaction. :)

At your height and weight with your muscle mass (I lift weights too) you must look pretty darn good CG!! :)

You're a sweetheart, but I'm a little pudgy for my taste. A 6 is way too big for me. I look much better in a 4.

Ehhh don't we all think we'd look that little bit better in a size less...!! :)

What A4A said has validity as well... I know I was chuffed when I ordered a skirt in an 8 and it nearly fell off me.. had to reorder in a 6 and was delighted!! Stupid really... doesn't change the fact that every where else I'll take a 8!! :o

Yeah. I avoid lifting weights because of this. I used to go to the gym and lift weights 6 days a week. I was dancing at that time, and noticed how heavy it made my body so I stopped lifting weights and did yoga and pilates instead. It's made a lot of difference in the way my body has shaped itself and the types of muscles it works, using thos tiny little stablizing muscles really REALLY helps you slim down and have those long lovely muscles that dancers get.

I have stockiness in my family as well, another reason I avoid lifting weights. You can get the benefits from other types of exercises, I think.

Posted

I would recommend that you try adding yoga or pilates into your weekly workout routines - maybe once or twice a week, instead of lifting weights all the time. That makes short people look bulky.

I'm juuuuuust sayin.

Posted

Eh, I've done yoga, it really doesn't do anything for me. It's hard, and it's very relaxing, but I'm already in the gym for an hour and a half, I don't want to add another hour to that. I don't mind lifting weights, I would actually rather do weights than cardio. It doesn't make me bulky, but it gives me really cool tone. I have that ball on my shoulder, I love that. Weights making women bulky is actually a myth. You need steroids to do that.

Posted

Yep, that's a really good thought BO, and with the right reasoning behind it... I keep meaning to add something like that to my weekly work out.

I try to do a fair amount of core body work as well which also helps I think, at least in my mind as it uses those same muscles.

I also do cardio for at least 30 mins each session. The weight are to tone and provide muscle tone. I like a fairly muscular look to my body! *Not too much though... those women body builders scare me!!*
