Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew why I sometimes smell like ammonia or bleach after a workout?

I obviously don't drink either, and it's before I hit the showers, so it's not in the water and it doesn't matter what clothes I am wearing, especially since I don't use bleach in washing my clothes anyway

Any thoughts or ideas? Like maybe I'm an alien in a human body :)

I don't remember exactly anymore. It's a by-product of hard workouts. Either from lactic acid or protein. Wish I could remember. It's nothing to worry about, except I'm sure the chicks probably won't dig it.

You're not on a low-carb diet plan by any chance?

Some people give off the odor of acetone when they're going super low-carb and their body switches into ketosis to burn fuel.

It's a smell somewhat akin to nail polish remover....but might also smell a bit like what you're describing?

I was going to say the same thing...if you hadn't eaten very many carbs, the workout could have shoved you over into ketosis. I'm a lowcarber (7 years) and if I drink a lot of water before a weight workout plus have a protein shake before it, the acetone smell isn't as bad.
