Tessa66 Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 I have seen lots of private calls in my b/f's cell. Mainly incoming. We share a plan together, and when we got the bill the other day theres calls that will say private call. Or no call id. Now I know sometimes if someone has a unlisted home phone number it will say private. But I'm not sure if its that, or if someone is calling him from their cell and purposly blocking their number. Its been alot here lately, and I showed him the cell bill and even asked him about it. He says they were wrong numbers that called him. However the duration talk time of these private numbers vary from say, 5 minutes to 10 minutes. I hardly think thats a wrong number. SO if it shows private in the phone, and private or no call id on the cell bill, will they know at the cell phone company where the call came from, what the number is etc? Or do they not know that either since it was private?
JadeStar Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 I have no clue, and I have wondered that before myself. Hopefully someone else will know. Jade
Lil Honey Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 The only way to find out is to call the phone company. Since you are on the account, they will tell you if they can. I was just reading an article about "gathering information" in the newspaper. I'll try to find it . . .
Art_Critic Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 No they will not know.. by hitting star 67 you remove the number from being transmitted thru the phone company switches.. so even the phone company will not know.. That being said if you have activated a number for harassing calls they can enable the switches to effectivly reverse search and when someone calls with the number blocked the switch will still know who dialed the number.. but that is a service for harrasing calls
whichwayisup Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Yup, *67 will show up as an unknown caller. I actually HATE call display and the reasons why most use 'em. So if I call someone who I know has call display I use the *67. Pisses me off when I call and they answer, Hello WWIU! GRRRRRRRR... Sorry, I kinda ranted on your thread.

Interesting, I don't answer "unavailable" or "private" because it pisses me off. I just think "ha, i am unavailable and private, too. *ignore*" Why masquerade as a telemarketer I don't know.

I just think "ha, i am unavailable and private, too. *ignore*" Why masquerade as a telemarketer I don't know. I do this as well. I have never understood why people will purposly block their numbers, unless they have something to hide or theres some issues going on. If I see a private number I don't answer it either.
whichwayisup Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Good point. LOL! I guess I just feel Call display is an invasion of privacy for ME. Remember life before all those features? TO call someone and just get a busy signal?
mini696 Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 They used to make them private to protect people. Now people use them to harrase and hide.
jerbear Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 The telco can uncover the *67. Now if the person is REALLY doing something interesting, they can do it. Like wanting to upset the ex by faking the callerID to be their SO. Better yet, their own # showing up on the display! :lmao: A definately NOT legal procedure does exist.
justagirl1121 Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 i work for a cell co. if you get call details on your bill, they show up the same way in our system. any unbilled call history can't be given out to a customer, but if it says unavailable or restricted, i wouldnt be able to tell you either. now im sure that there is a way to probably still see the number some how but if u called customer service they wouldnt be able to tell you up front like that.....im not sure what you'd have to do to get the restricted numbers, if that is possible.
MusicWoman Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 either way...you know the man is lying...since you already caught him in a lie.... unless hes just super friendly with people who call wrong numbers?
