sorry there Hoke..... but hell I even got yearly tickets to one Nascar race LMAO!!! I so do...... I go to have a hell of a good time, get ripped and place a bet or two........once a year is enough. River raftings is superb in the early summer. But I don't have a thing in common with people that would say "I ain't doin' dat, dat is for dem rich peeples". Why not expand your horizons?

Regardless if it is a Nascar race or a day at the symphony? I guess it is about being content in ignorance by choice.

You sound quite condescending towards those you perceive as being *below* you. Your mocking tone and adherence to stereotypes that may not be accurate are quite repugnant. I am beginning to picure Leona Helmsley while reading your words. Blech.

I was taught that the true measure of *class* (or lack of) is how you treat people of ALL classes - not just those in YOUR *class*.

:lmao: :lmao: It's reality Smooch, I will not sit and have a conversation with my friends drunken crackhead neighbor who lives in a nice home...... sorry..... he is below me. On the other hand I have happily chatted with my neighbors who are poor and have class. It is not about money it is about manners, how one handles themselves in situations, ect. I will not tolerate a rich a**h*** more than a poor one.

But again your opinion does not matter because I make more money than you! :p :p :p < see I can kid around too>:)

I guess you're fancy folk if you go to a NASCAR race and you are in a penthouse.:p

I get the "attitude" sometimes from people as I fly first class. People who know nothing about me but automaticaly think they are better than I am.

Money does not buy happiness but it sure as hell helps. :)

I am actually having a fantastic day.... so not being mean at all.

some rich heiress once said in an interview that its better to cry in a rolls royce than to laugh on a bicycle. that quote always stuck with me for some reason. i don't know why.

I don't see the humour in what you said but I will agree in that I do not *want/need* money or *stuff* in order to be happy. I don't have the need to *keep up with the Joneses* in a material sense. Not at all. :)

Sure as hell is funny though listening to people rail on about this though. :)

Because it is so F-ing TRUE! Eventually you will be laughing in that RR! :lmao:

Hell yes having the ability to have what makes you happy even materialistic things is SUPER!! Not a damn thing wrong with it. As long as the acquisition of the material items does not cause harm, or long term debt. Spend Smart.

This is another division between the classes in many cases.

I cannot have it so I will just put it down and state that I never wanted it.

Just admit you want it and find a way to get it...... Hell YEAH.....the American Dream!

A plasma tv in every room! (or was that a chicken in every pot?) :lmao: :lmao:

This is flawed thinking.

Not EVERYONE is interested in having the *latest and greatest*. A plasma teevee in EVERY room? Come on now... that's silly. Why would anyone want that?

I'm not even interested in having one. I've seen demos of them and I wasn't impressed. Blech.

Some of us just have a different attitude when it comes to materialism. Doesn't make us *right or wrong*... it just makes us who we are. :)

We haven't been bitten by the *affluenza* bug. Google the term if you haven't heard of it. :)

True it is funny. I just laugh and laugh when some idiot spends $500 on a pair of shoes or whatever. Foolish.

Agreed. :)

They have to be compensating for something if they're doing that. Big time.

I dunno.

I think if you grow up with, say a "comfortable" living, getting what you want, not worrying about money, I would tend to think you wouldnt' value it as much.

I don't really. It's just there. I've had a lot of it, I've been totally broke. It never really changed how I felt or anything.

It's a tool. It has no inherent value. It's paper.

Yeah, but to some people it's their entire life.

If you have the $500 and that is what you want..... why not? Not for me either but who cares, but would it not be nice to have a spare $500 for shoes that were just something you felt like getting.

I have some very expensive clothing items, I rarely wear, but when I do I feel great in them... the price does not matter. I also have a great flannel shirt I think I picked up at the salvation army store I wear it to death..... it is what makes you feel good regardless of the price tag. But having the option to shop at Needless Markups (neimans) or at the S. army is a great option.

Because someone buys only cheap stuff does that make them better than those that like more expensive stuff......... nope.

See this is a simple case of reverse classism :lmao:

I also think that although it was couched in some caustic verbage, SF has a point when he says that it's kind declasse to even discuss the issue of class. In terms of others' inferiority. It doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth, anyways.

At least around here where I live.

what is wrong with being poor and being proud or rich and being proud.....

there is shame in being wealthy?

But as we can see it does cause a rift.

The shame isn't in being wealthy by itself... the shame is in that there are some wealthy people who use their wealth as a means of proclaiming some sort of *superiority* over those who aren't wealthy.

Wealthy people can lose all their wealth in an instant - and if they did... what would they be then? Especially if their entire identity was forged from that wealth?

Ever see that movie "The Game?" Remember how Michael Douglas was such a stuck-up a**h*** with his wealth? He thought he was above everyone else... and look what happened when he practically lost everything. He was humbled... big time - and THAT was the point of the *game* - to be humbled and understand that you are not above everyone else because of being wealthy.

hmmmm, yes....Waterford crystal, very nice :)

he wants the entire xmas tree to be made of Waterford crystal? that would cost like $100,000...WTF! Can you guys afford that? I think it would look real cool but don't you think it would be very fragile. It would have to be encased in a clear plastic box at all times...

Well, even if I could afford it, I wouldn't want it. I certainly like ornaments my kids have made just as well. His mom gave us two Waterford blown glass ornaments for Christmas and then he got me a crystal one- each was probably 35-40 dollars.

That's what I'm saying. I just don't get how people put that much emphasis on things like that. I've just never been that way.

I'm certainly seeing a new side of life. However it's cool because his parents are completely aware of who I am and what my belief system is. They love me but I just cannot relate to their lifestyle at all sometimes.

Like at Christmas, she wanted to get the three kids Christmas pictures made and she had a $500.00 gift certificate she won in a charity bid thingy. So we did the pictures at this hoity toity place and when we ordered the pics- which included Christmas cards, she still owed $800.00. I was like WTF??? Pictures just cannot be worth that much. The guy was slow as hell taking pictures of three kids, how could he charge that much? And she paid the bill without blinking while I almost couldn't pick my jaw off the floor.

I agree with you but only IF and that's the operative word here, IF their identity is wrapped up in their wealth. You know there are classy people who just happen to have money just as there are those people with class who don't have any money.

And, as we all know, money and class don't necessarily go together.
