If Alpha statistc is right and the meduim income for a household is $45,000 that means a lot of people are not making it. The stuggle to be able to have a decent place to live and eat and god forbid something should happen. Most of these people work as hard as wealthier people but they might not have a the right skills or education to get a higher paying job. and they can't afford to go to college or better thier education so they are stuck in this never ending poverty loop. I can see being pretty pissed off working 40-50 hours a week and not being able to afford food and housing etc.. I read a study that said the majoiry of american jobs are either as cashier or retial workers they all make below $20,000

And if they the rich don't have class within their person then they can always buy it. Class, per se, is really more a mindset than anything but it is embellished by the material goods one has and the people with whom they hang. Maybe this is because I live in the South and am confronted with cheesy, classless good ol' boys with family money. My oldest sister's H's family is like that. Obsecenely wealthy racist rednecks. I suppose I also judge people on a different data set than you do. Whenever I see an older man with an expensive car, I think : (a) he has a small penis (b) he has erectile dysfunction © he is balding and insecure about it (d) all of the above. I've been hit on many times by cheesy older men with money. I think it's something about my high-pitched voice. I dunno. One guy still calls me, known him for years, and tries to convince me to get out of relationships because he can take care of me. Yeah. um. no.

Nobody "needs" $80K to live unless they "need" a 6000 sq. foot house, three or four vehicles, a couple plasma TVs in every room, and a chef to cook for you. You can buy a perfectly respectable house most places for 250K (and some places, a lot less) which means a mortgage of less than 2K a month. Unless you eat pure gold at every meal the rest of your expenses should take not much more than $1200 a month but let's toss in another $300 - that's still just $42K. I can't imagine how anyone could think $80K is a bare minimum to survive on!

Whenever I was little and we saw them on the river or at the beach, my sisters and I called them "old man crotch rockets".
