Hi, I've been eating dinner around 5:30pm each day, and making my portions smaller. I've also been making at least 50% of the meal vegetables, the balance about one quarter meat, one quarter pasta or rice, etc.

I've lost a few kgs, and I'm sure it's the early dinner more than anything else. Has anyone else tried this and found it made any difference to their weight? If so, how much difference?

I'm not sure how much it's contributing, but I would say it's the main thing?

I would suspect it's much more the substituting until vegies take up half your plate, since vegies have many many fewer calories than do meat or other foods.

it should be making a difference. Remember that your body will try and burn dietary calories first and then store what it doesn't need. If you are eating earlier (during a more active time of day) and eating smaller portions, then you are more likley to be burning the majority of the calories you are eating in every day activities and don't have a lot coming in to be stored during the evening when you are not active or sleeping.

But 5:30 isn't that early - unless the OP spends the time between then and bed zooming around exercising or cleaning madly.

Yes, and drink lots of cold water during the day - that will help to lose weight too.

Great point. For those who aren't aware, your body has to work harder to warm you up after ingesting cold liquids, which burns calories. :bunny:
