Has anyone tried a digital recorder before to try and obtain info? Is this illegal?

Yes, I do supect my husband might be cheating, and not going into all that detail right now, but lets just say, theres lots and lots of received and dialed calls that are private. I do know that if it says private, that someone has blocked it like that. There are womens cell numbers in his cell that he seems to know nothing about as well.

I had a lady tell me before, when she couldn't get the info she needed, and a PI was to high for her price range at the time, she placed a small digital recorder in her husbands vehicle. She said she found out who he was talking to for sure when he got in his car and called the number and she heard him say the womans name that was in question.

The thing is my husband parks his car at work then goes out to his job site for 8-10 hours a day. Seems like along time for a recorder to just sit and record nothing until he got in his car at the end of the day. I have seen some that last up to 16 hours. is this still a good idea to try or are there any other suggestions.

Please spare me the "You need to talk to him routine." I have been for along time. I have had no real clear cut answers as to whats going on, but with some things happening its obvious there is and I want to know for sure, so I can proceed from there with what to do. Thanks in advance.

If this is something you're adament about doing, then you could do a google search on those recorders. I might be wrong but I think the ones that are voice activated, don't start recording until it hears sound/movement. Maybe someone else can help you out better.

I think Chump64 may have used one of these before. You can search for her posts by user name.

Have you checked his cell phone records to see if the number is printed out on the bill?

What about your home computer?

I have checked the cell phone records and all I see is where it will say private call or no caller id. The computer I don't see anything unsual, and I view our cell bill online as well.

Is this illegal?
Depends where you are. In some places yes and some places no.

Many cops are lazy and wouldn't bother with even writing a report if your H complained. The D.A. wants to get re-elected and it doesn't look good if he/she prosecutes a woman trying to find out if her H is cheating on her. The D.A. doesn't prosecute everything that lands on his table. So you'll likely be fine even if it isn't legal to do it where you are.

You can set the recorder to only record when there is a loud enough sound like someone talking a couple feet away.

Have you called the numbers on his cell phone that he "knows nothing about"? Think up some scheme for why you are calling and try to find out who these people are. Also, there are some services on the web that can trace cell phone numbers. I think it's a bit pricey though. Do a search on "cell phone reverse lookup."

You can get a small digital voice recorder at electronics stores for about $50. Read the manual carefully and set it to "voice activated recording," so you don't have to listen to dead air for 8-10 hours. I put mine in the flap (bookholder thingy) behind the driver's side seat. If your husband isn't suspicious of this, he won't look in the obvious places. Otherwise you might need to hide it better. I've heard of people velcro-ing voice recorders to the under side of the driver's seat.

The recorders I bought came with packaging that said they would last up to 17 hours, but that time is always dependent on battery life. In reality, they would last for about 12 hours. Also, they needed new batteries each day. You might consider investing in rechargeable batteries. I just picked up a ton of them at a dollar store and they worked fine.

Illegal? Yeah, probably. Is your husband going to report you? Probably not. Do you think he wants your name / his name in the paper? Plus like someone else said, a cop would probably laugh in his face if he tried to file a complaint. Plus, he would have no evidence that you planted it, unless you left the receipt lying around and / or confessed.

Do you suspect your husband uses your home land line when you are not around, to call any of these people? If so, tap your own phone. You can buy phone recorders that plug directly into the phone jack.

PIs = waste of money. You can do so much more on your own.

Good luck.

You can check his credit card records to see if there are an unusual purchases. If your name is on the card, you are privy to that information. Just call up the credit card company and ask them to send you a copy of whatever months you are curious about.

It won't give you a name, obviously, but it will tell you what he has been doing with his credit card. From that info, you can assess what he's doing and buying without you.

As a fellow woman, I would say that if your gut is telling you something is going on, stick with your intuition. And, although it is excruciatingly painful to find out about an affair, you will have the truth and can then deal with it accordingly.

Good luck...

It is not at all unusual for cheaters to get their own credit cards and to use their work address as their billing address. Same thing with cell phones. Lots of cheaters have a private cell phone that is billed to work and that the spouse is unaware of.

If you suspect he calls any of these numbers he doesn't know anything about from your home phone, ask for a printout from the phone company. It will show date and times.

You say you can view the cell details online...are these suspicious numbers at the time when he is leaving work?

Sorry, I can't be any help with the technological part of your question

i used a voice recorder that i bought at radio shack. it was advised to me by my attorney. my ex was verbally abusive to myself and the children. i don't know about a video camera though. i know in nj, a voice recorder would have been admissable in court.

I have used a voice activated recorder in the past. It will not run unless it picks up voices. That way it will not fill up too fast. You can get a digital recorder with voice activation for around $100. I had suspected my husband for a long time and could not get deffinate proof until I hid the recorder in his car.
