I have a problem getting into a sleeping routine since every night is different at Uni. Anyone tried any pills they would recommend to help me drop off?

tylenol PM works pretty good. but if you have classes, you may still feel the effects of them in the morning, and your work may suffer as a result. how many hours do you usually sleep at night?

Well i seem to be sleeping at like 4:30am at which point i usually i sleep until i'm rested fully. Which results in me skipping lectures in favour of sleep... I usually have about 11 hours sleep if i sleep in. If I get up for 10:00 lectures its more like 6 hours sleep.

I have this problem, too. (I teach at uni . . . Guess some habits die hard, huh?)

I've consulted lots of drs. for pills to sleep. I don't want to get dependent on them or then I'll need another to wake me up and thus begins a vicious cycle.

What drs. assure me of is that sleep really is a habit, and I'm trying to get into one of getting up at the same time every day (that's the first step, I'm told). Then going to bed at the same time every day, which, honestly, is difficult with all the studying we have to do, huh? I don't know about you, but I'd still rather socialize and talk about the exciting stuff I'm reading/researching during the times of day that most people are awake and then read on my own in the wee small hours of the night.

So part of the problem for me may be that I'm an extrovert trapped in an introverted context.

An antihistimine like Benadryl that you take for allergies often does the trick for folks.

But again, be careful. You can get so dependent on these that you won't be able to sleep without them after consistent use for a while.

I've come to befriend my insomnia as well and use it as time to pray for the world. After all, can't very well garden at 3 a.m. without the neighbors wondering what dead body I'm trying to hide, now can we?

tylenol PM is a heavy hitter IMO. if you aren't able to get a full 8 hours, i wouldn't recommend them. OTOH, if you are able to get that much sleep, i would start with just one and see if that doesn't do it for you (two is the usual dosage)

Tylenol PM does the trick for me, but only 1! If I take 2, I don't wake up until 3:00. The sleep agent in this is the same antihistimine as is in Benadryl, so sometimes I skip the acetiminophen and go for the straight antihistimine, though it makes some people edgey rather than sleepy.
