sadfish Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Just curious as to when and what men and women define a relationship as being "serious"...? The reason i ask is because i know some men who have been dating their girlfriends for 1+ years yet do not consider that to be serious--while they care about the woman they are with, they say if someone else presented themselves to them, they might consider dating them too. I also have other friends, males and females, that consider a year or more (or less in some cases) to be the very definition of serious. Exclusivity, yes, i know comes into it...but what else if anything for you determines it to be serious?
Kengne Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Other than exclusivity ... I think length of time in the rel'ship is important. A 2 yr rel'ship is more 'serious' than a 1 yr rel'ship, IMO. A 1 yr rel'ship is more 'serious' than a 2 mth rel'ship. I've only ever been in a serious, long-term rel'ship i.e. MORE than 1 year - once. It lasted 4 years. But for me, it didn't start to feel that way till abt 2 years in. Now, I don't know if it'll ALWAYS take me abt 2 years to feel 'serious' with smo ... bcuz I do factor in whether or not I was friends with the person to begin with, because IMO that cuts down on some time to feel 'serious'... but I DO know that the chemistry b/t you and the person you're with also plays a role. You can be with someone for 5 years... and never feel serious. Then you meet someone else, and BAM! you feel serious abt that person w/in 6 mths. It's inexplicable. K.
