Elise Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 i just have a general question about therapy...if a person tells their therapist they want to kill themselves, what is general procedure for the therapist? what is she supposed to do, lawfully? does anyone know? thank you..
Guest Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I expect if the therapist thinks the person is in danger of doing it the therapist will take the person to a hospital for meds and to be assessed. I used to know a psychologist and I remember her telling me she had to go to the hospital with patients sometimes.
nice guy444 Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 i think by law they need to report it to the proper people, prehaps another medical service that is equipped to prevent someone from causing harm to themselves. If a therapist doesnt report someones suicidal thoughts and that person eventually commits suicide the therapist can face charges or some type of reprecussions with their medical liscense, not to mention the guilt from not doing what is in their power to help. The doctor - patcient confidentiality doesnt apply in this case
