I guess I'm screwed then because it seems the older I get the younger the guys are that I date.

That's strange. I might get older but those college chicks I date seem to stay the same age. . .

:p

Well that was the predominant ideology of the 19th century. I doubt that it's an issue. Unless you live in a third world country or something. Then I might be concerned.

Some of us could simply care less what society thinks ... or perhaps even more accurately, the more it pisses society off the better.

As long as you're on the same page, your age gap should be fine. Even if you were to have children someday, 12 years isn't too crazy a difference. If, however, you were 18 and he were in his late 20s-early 30s there might be a problem -- you'd be in overly different life stages. Same page/similar life stages: you want the same things out of the relationship, you have common interests, and neither one is using the other. There's also the power balance issue. If you're too far apart in mental, emotional, or even financial development there's the temptation of one of you "pulling rank." If you're both happy and treating each other well, then it's all good. :)

Really I don't think it matters. There is 17 year gap with my bf and I'm older.

Flavius yeah I don't see what difference it makes anyway cause I don't see too many relationships on here lasting more than 5 years.

Funny most of the guys that hit on me are 20s 30s.

Very strange, I hit on older women and some of the younger ones look like they are in college but are high school seniors!

Talk about a gap and different life stages! I'm almost done graduate school and moving to career #2/3.

When I ask those with small wrinkles and a strand of white hair; they are over 46 and another one was a grandmother (50) with a daughter (32) that. Talk about whoa!

I don't like the idea that a large gap exists; especially when the one you are dating could have spawned you or could be your mom's childhood friend. One thing is to be seeing her, another thing to be married to her. Just spooky in that way.

the formula makes sense as it is scaled as one gets older. Say 100 and 80 seem acceptable; not to say it is a good idea to use that formula because when my mom is 100 I'll be 80.

Now that is scary also.

I have no idea what you think is "spooky" about it.

I think nothing more than preconceived notions you've absorbed from our society. Society is great at ensuring most of us silently and unconsciously absorb it's prejudices and ideas without ever even knowing it.

All that matters is that one be happy ... society be damned.

Did anyone see Harold and Maude ?
