I did a looksie in Hs CPU under the .dbx files. got some info. But some of it is garbled. Is there a way around this? It is Outlook mail....... Some one at a software store could help you find it.
Owl Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Short of logging into Outlook with his account/password, I'm not sure what more you could get from those specific files. What I'd suggest is that you do a couple of things. First, install a keylogger on the computer to track what he does/types/etc... Try logging into his email account with account names/passwords that his wife would think he'd use...you would be amazed how often that works. Try doing a 'search all files' type search using key words that could pertain to the affair...OW's name, or words he might have used while talking with her..."love", words relating to a physical meeting between them (you get the idea), etc...
Chump64 Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Just be sure you scroll through the files carefully. Sometimes amid the garble, there can be paragraphs of clear text. If you have something in notepad, hit "control f" and then type in / search for a word (a name, a phrase, whatever). It might save you time from having to scroll thru and read everything.
Chump64 Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 This Home Keylogger software is free and easy to set up / easy to hide on a computer. Don't put it in the program files -- put it in a WORD file or something. It offers you an icon to click on so it can work in stealth mode, and usually it can't be found by spyware. The down side is that you need to restart it each day; when you close the computer down for the night, this program closes and you need to restart it in the EXE file. http://www.kmint21.com/keylogger/
Art_Critic Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 She would be better off to look for the .mbx file instead.. it contains the emails that can be read with any txt editor like notepad. the .dbx files are just indexing files for the mbx files so outlook can seperate them into seperate emails..
Author a4a Posted February 27, 2006 Author Posted February 27, 2006 I am running a trial on my laptop we both have XP and outlook mail. I can read some of my email when I search inbox.dbx If I do a .mbx I get zilch..... what am I doing wrong? I only get about a 2 hour window to knock this out tomorrow night.
Art_Critic Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 ahh.. Outlook not Outlook express.. the .mbx files are for Express.. You might want to look into an dbx converter or copy the dbx file and import it into another computers outlook. if you do copy all the files located in the same folder as the dbx file in order to import them
Author a4a Posted February 27, 2006 Author Posted February 27, 2006 It is Outlook express........ called gf her computer has it as well....... sheesh I feel so stupid!!!!!!!
Art_Critic Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 you might be looking at the right files.. turn word wrap off. the data that looks like garbled info is binary info.. like images or pics.. the text is the readable emails.
Sassy Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 a4a what made her think he is cheating ? Did she see emails from this person ? Did she suspect cheating and went snooping in the computer?
Author a4a Posted February 27, 2006 Author Posted February 27, 2006 Thank you ART.......I am no computer guru!! On mine I am seeing some weird things too...... "Enlarge your penis" This is getting on my nerves as I can see the recent ones but nothing all that old........ I must be doing something wrong here. I have 43 emails in my delete box but they are not even showing up. I want to be able to help her out she is worse than me with the computer. Its like Larry and Moe trying to hack into a computer:lmao: Mr. H got caught with some unknown cell calls, then lack of funds, then lack of verifiable work to home drive times, and likes to hide in the corner with the computer at very odd hours. Also started paying his personal credit cards online only.....no paper bills on the home phone either. He is a nasty man, hit on her sister even. He reminds me of howard stern......looks kinda like him minus the big hair. It's just all adding up and quickly.
Art_Critic Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 each folder is a different file ie : the inbox is seperate from deleted and that is seperate from sent and also sperate from any other custom folders that may have been created
Author a4a Posted February 27, 2006 Author Posted February 27, 2006 How far back can you expect to retrieve info?
Author a4a Posted February 27, 2006 Author Posted February 27, 2006 Thank you Art....... be glad you are not my neighbor or I would be knocking at your door often. "Hi Art, can I bother you for just a minute............."
Art_Critic Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 If he never doubled deleted something forever.. but if he double deleted his emails you can't go back at all and get those without special software
Sassy Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Thank you Art....... be glad you are not my neighbor or I would be knocking at your door often. "Hi Art, can I bother you for just a minute............." When anyone has a problem with their computer they always calling my s/o be it family friends . My s/o knows alot about computers as well. My friend h likes to delete stuff and she is always asking my s/o about things and s/o tells him that it can be retreived with the right program .
Author a4a Posted February 27, 2006 Author Posted February 27, 2006 I just found my own phone bill I paid online:lmao: This is very interesting and as a matter a fact I need to clean out my computer ASAP! I did not realize I have said a few "private" things via email ...........ROOOPS! I am going to keep plodding along on this until I get it right. It has become a personal challenge! I had no idea you could dig this deep on a computer. Kinda interesting to say the least. Wonder what my H is hiding .......... Probably a Home Depot DIY website Thanks all for the tips! Will Yell for help before I get too frustrated and toss this one in the yard.
