JadeStar Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I learn something new everday I guess. I was reading this artcile about STD's. A friend of mine had been diagnosed with one a few months ago, and I was looking up some info for her. As I was reading a particular site, it stated where this woman had written in and said she had recently found out she had an STD, and wanted to know if her husband had been cheating and if thats where she had got it. As I was reading, I went on the assumption myself that her husband must have been cheating , like recently for her to have that. Well, as I read further, I found out that, that info can sometimes be false. It said that some people can have an STD, and it lay dormant in the body for years, and years, and years, from a previous partner, and they not know they have it, until one day if the immune system is weak it can pop up all of a sudden. It also said so many people are under the assumption, that when they hear they have an STD they automatically think their spouse or S/O is cheating, that may be the case sometimes, but not all the time. Ok, so I'm not trying to sound nieve, I just thought it was interesing, because I know things can lay dormant, but didn't know it could for years, and years, and years. I thought maybe there was a time frame on some of those things, but guess not. Dayummm now wouldn't that be something, to be diagnosed with something like that, and not know really for sure if it was from a partner that cheated recently, or from something someone had along time ago? Wonder how they would detect that as far as if it were recent or from years ago? Hmmm? Jade
whichwayisup Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I always thought it was true, one COULD get crabs from public toilet seats. Which is why I NEVER sit my ass down on one. Interesting post JS.

Interesting post JS. LOL me either, I never sit down on those toliet seats either. Then my husband played a trick on me once and said it didn't matter if I sat down or not, CRABS could jump, and jump high? WTF, he later told me he was just kidding and he didn't know if they could or not, but I have heard if you flip the suckers over, they crawl on either side. Jade
jerbear Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 A blood test could have detected some and sometimes you have to look for it. Most are pretty standard; if you or SO gets a annual physical with a blood test; then it might be found. From there further tests could be done.

This is very interesting jerbear, are you meaning that blood test can be detected from recent affair or and something that lays dormant for years and years !
Madeleine Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I believe it may be the true that certain STD's can lie dormant for years, however, even armed with that knowledge, honesty about one's sexual activities is still paramount as people's health, fertility and even lives are at risk. My ex husband was diagnosed with chlamydia. He swore blind in front of the doctor (and me) that he'd never been unfaithful. The doctor suggested that chlamydia may possibly lie dormant for many years. My ex husband latched onto this suggestion and convinced me that it must have come from a relationship he'd had before he met me. Some years later, my ex husband confessed to having had an affair - the timing of which co-incided exactly to when he had chlamydia. HE'D BEEN LYING TO ME ALL ALONG. His STD was detected and treated pretty quickly and seeing as he was having sex with another woman at the time, he wasn't interested in having sex with me so fortunately i tested negative. When it comes to STD's never, ever take anyone's word for anything. GET TESTED.
