Lights Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 What are good casual first dates that are equivalent to the way some people go for drinks or coffee? I don't use alcohol nor caffeine, and I very much hate the nightlife environment so drinks is something I just do not do at all.
gfto Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 not to be a smart *ss, but couldn't you just order a decaf?
Author Lights Posted February 17, 2006 Author Posted February 17, 2006 not to be a smart *ss, but couldn't you just order a decaf? No problems, I don't think that's smart-ass-ish; I almost never go to coffee shops at all because I hate coffee (last time I showed up in a coffee shop was around a year ago, and I happened at the time to have a hankering for hot chocolate). I pretty much just don't have a use for it as a place. I suppose I should have specified that in my original post, though.
Walk Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Coffee shops have hot chocolate, pop like Coke or Pepsi, (how far do you take this no caffeine thing?) Usually lots of selections of different tea's. Especially with no caffeine. Nearly ever coffee shop I've gone to has fruit juice's (name brands). Lots of drinks that don't have caffeine in them. If you're not interested in the "usual", you could try something that's like a sundae shop. We've got one where I live that specializes in ice cream of any kind. Also sell burgers and stuff, but people go there for the ice cream. Kind of a casual place where you can sit down. I used to end up going to places like Big Boy, Steak n shake, and just getting desert with the guy for our "date", when I was too young to drink. Pool hall?
Walk Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 sorry must've crossed posts on that one. Didn't see your reply to gfto until I posted mine. nix the coffee shop.
roxy_1980 Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Lunch at a deli is somewhat analogous. It's short and sweet and causal. No caffeine or alcohol required.
cal gal Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Not sure about places for you but as far as a drink for me, a perrier (or other sparkling water) and a lime. I like it.
jerbear Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Not to interrupt, how about one of them juice bars? If you two work out together or started meeting in a gym, a juice bar is an option. the other areas like diners, sundae shops, were already mentioned.
Art_Critic Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 I gave up alcohol and caffeine.. I drink sprite or water at restaurants and at home caffeine free diet coke and water

Art_Critic Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 I remember you saying you also gave up nicotine. Have you no vices at all, sweetpea??? You are correct.... I'm just a bore now..
Rosalind Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Nah....you've got them...there're censored that's all
konfuzd Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 What kind of hobbies do you have? There are sooooo many things to do if you just think outside of the 'drinking box'. Look at your local newspaper for events coming to town... maybe a theatre presentation, art exhibit, live music, museum... Not sure where you are, and how much weather is a concern, but how about a picnic in the park, a walk somewhere.... I, personally like to do things that are a bit out of the norm... maybe go check out a flea market, antique shop, some crazy tourist attraction in your area...
TheSwordfish Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Go for chocalate milk, its sweet, its funny and it gives you a cute little moustache She'll be laughing alright
Groovy Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Starbucks has coffee if the person wants coffee. But if they don't they have water, juice, decafe ice teas, etc. Another idea is a health food bar, go for a fruit smoothie maybe. That depends on the person though.

I couldn't possibly agree more; it's just that my hobbies aren't common nor social in nature, and that I was looking for something sufficiently universal that would be effective even if I don't know much of anything about the intended's hobby preferences. I'll look into these ideas though. And thanks.
Basic Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Not my idea. I originally saw this in a list of cheap dates by another poster. The poster had to appear in court for traffic issue. He invited a woman to join him there as a date. She had never been to court and it was certainly a safe place to meet. Others included an invitation to attend an auction, a boat show, an investment seminar. If there is something you do that a potential date hasn't, maybe it's worth asking.
