I think you've taken the right approach, man, and props to you for doing that. I don't think you panicked or anything; I think you just told her straight up what you wanted. I guess the decision to make is yours.

Glad you laid it out for her. An even better approach is, "I'm not going to be anybody's second choice or fallback choice, somebody you call when you're bored. I'm your first choice, or your nothing." Betcha that would stun her into silence, and give her some respect for you in the process.
