BUTAFLY Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 I was in the grocery store at an express selfcheck out line. a women was approaching the same line with a cart and she kindof put a pep in her step to get in front of me. She me had a less than half cart of groceries so i figured what the heck, the other lines were longer. she was on her cell phone and not paying attention to what she was doing. She would talk, finishing a statement, "I know then Jhonny said ...blah blah blah...it was so funny ya should of been there...hahahahah" then slowly reach in her cart to grab an item, hold the item in her hand until she was done saying what she had to say then 'beep' scanned on item". she did this repeadly. I skimmed through a few magazines and realized this lady had only scanned 3 things and the other long lines where almost gone. So I gave a passive aggressive huff. she got my point and looked at me with attitude and rolled her eyes. I say nothing pick up another magazine then I start looking around for a shorter line she looks at me and says all snoty, "I hope you don't have some sort of problem, I plan on being her a while" So now she says to the person on the phone I'm at the store and I'm being rushed" by this time two other people are behind me and they are getting annoyed with her also so is the bagger at the end of the belt. I pick up my items and move and she calls out "I told you I was planning on being her for a while" SHe was white I would guess mid 40's I was driving and stopped at a red light. my window started vibrating as another car appoached behind me. music soo loud my car was jumpping. I looked in the rearview mirror, car full of white teenagers. I got pleanty want me to keep going? My point is the color of your skin has NOTHING to do with ignorance.
whichwayisup Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 Inconsiderate people come in all sizes, sexes, shapes and races. That is the truth of it.
clandestinidad Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 there shouldn't be an naacp; it's another point of separation, not to mention there is no naawp. i understand why it started. fine. but if you want equality, you don't get what others do not. black history month, the black frats and clubs on campus. i think most people lie when they say they want equality Oh dear. The reason SOME African-Americans/Blacks like to join these predominantly Black groups is to share commonalities, and have cultural closeness, which gives them comfort and companionship....and some people really feel their African heritage very stronly and want to stay in touch with it. Not all of these groups of people are angry people with bad attitudes. Just like predominantly rich white girls in sororities, just like Skin Heads, just like a Scottish club, just like KKK groups, just like Black Panthers, just like the Daughters of the American Revolution, etc etc etc Yes, certain groups stand for different things, some good and some bad. But that does not mean that everyone in these groups wants to be segregated from society just because of the group they associate with. Quit thinking that just because someone belongs to a "Black Group" that means they are trying to distance themselves from the rest of society...they want companionship with people they have numerous things in common with....just like your rich white sorority girls Do you think members of Scottish/Irish groups want to segregate themselves?! People join groups for their own reasons....stop generalizing to the negative so much And yes, you can form whatever "White" groups you want....the part of it is that you have to allow people of other races to join. Whites can join Black or Hispanic or Asian or any other group.....they just dont.
Author Brittanyjean06 Posted February 5, 2006 Author Posted February 5, 2006 Kat your my hero!! I always wanted to be a fly on the wall listen to what white people a had to say about other races. I guess things haven't changed much in 50 years. and what is really sad, these are a bunch of high schoolers ...the cycle will never end. and what do you have against high schoolers stating their opinions?...how is that sad.... lol pathetic... JUST pathetic:)
Author Brittanyjean06 Posted February 5, 2006 Author Posted February 5, 2006 I wish people on this site, would not get so defensive on here....to where they use someones age against them......or think that the person who is possibly in high school has no value of to what they have to say. lol I've had to read soooooo many posts....that have gone off topic ...and to a young persons age. Now What does that say about your age??... sad thing is, I'm the only high schooler here :-) no one really likes to listen to a young person, because they automatically think they don't know...or they Haven't experienced it yet...or perhaps...they don't want to think that someone with not as much experience COULD be right.... in the real world that is called HMMM, sterotyping Now this was just a normal post for petes sake... If you do not like someones thread, Do not respond......do not say anything at all...because that isn't your place to do so........BECAUSE IT WAS a question..it didn't have to get to the core of it...
Author Brittanyjean06 Posted February 5, 2006 Author Posted February 5, 2006 You are 100 % your color has nothing to do with the ignorance that is with in you... BUT you turned it around like that buttafly! you assumed wrongly.... SO WRONGLY... I have alot of stories myself to tell about whites, hey about hispanics ABOUT EVERYONE!... but my question, was why do i notice most blacks....MOST AT MY SCHOOL...hey it could just be my school...... maybe you got me on the whole high school thing, but what if you did notice all high schoolers were such and such....would you not say high schoolers???... everything has a label on it sad but true...everyone see's everyone differently get used to it...
Author Brittanyjean06 Posted February 5, 2006 Author Posted February 5, 2006 ooooooops didn't meen to put butta fly soryy..
a4a Posted February 5, 2006 Posted February 5, 2006 I hate having to get serious on LS but A4A, RainydayWoman, Alpha... How the hell did this become a share all your "bad black experiences" thread?? Sh*t happens guys. I'm not saying that it's right ~ the situations you all described are horrible, I agree. But what do you really hope to accomplish by ganging up and posting stories about how black people have harmed you? Wanna create an online support group? I've have sh*tty experiences with black people too...I've also had sh*tty experiences with white people, and hispanic people...not to mention the REAL sh*tty time I had with these 2 Philipino girls...what's your point? As Kat and a few others have repeatedly tried to explain, race isn't the main issue here. Some PEOPLE just suck. How about we try to deal with that? ugh, where did I put that whiskey... Well my dear I have fought tooth and nail for blacks, hispanics, gays, HIV+ and any group of people that have been shat on by society in general. My best of friends are gay, immigrants, black, ect. My point was not to bash blacks, my point was I felt oppressed by a certain group of black people that are entering an establishment and acting like a**h***s, who just happen to be black. If a bunch of drag queens started frequenting an establishment I go to on a regular basis, and were ripping off lipstick out of female patrons purses and acting like A$$es I would be upset with them as well. If a bunch of white rednecks walked into a black bar and started this crap it is ok to point them out ? I could give a rats ass what color they are the fact is that I really believe that the comments made by the man that stole from me about the bar itself being racially motivated to harm him by not carrying menthol cigarettes was outrageous! So because the bar is racist for not carrying menthols he is entitled to steal mine???? The previous week I had a great conversation about politics and the economy with a unemployed textile worker...... who was black. I bought him a beer as well. The situation is that a gang (be they black, white, green or gay) is taking over a nice establishment, and obviously some members of this "gang" feel the need to use the race card. These new patrons have been making anti white comments...... what would happen if we went to an establishment that was a hangout for blacks and started using such remarks and stating they don't carry our brand of cigarettes because we are white? I think we are all equal with the exception of a**h***s, but I think if you want to be equal you do not need to pull the race card. And I do not think we need a black history month.... If you want blacks to be recognized it should be put into our reg. history teachings, not better, not worse, equally represented. Because it has equal importance.
honeybunch2k5 Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 Why is it that a phrase can be used by one race and be perfectly OK, but when used by another race it is considered racism? Who is separating the races the most? Is it the white people or the black people? (not talking about other races here because it seems to be most troublesome between black and white) Some black people used to be the slaves of some white people. Some white people used to be slaves of some other white people - they were called endentured servants. If I could trace my roots to that of an endentured servent from whom should I demand restitution? There are definate cultural and social lines that run along the same race lines and are often confused and mixed together. Why is acknolweding the social and cultural differences racism? Why do some people within the black race put down or ostrasize others in the black race when those others try to improve themselves and get ahead in life? I've heard some black kids coming down on other black kids with negative and sarcastic statements like "why are you trying to be like whitey?" Why is there a black history month and not a white history month? Shouldn't we just have an American History Month? Why doesn't the NAACP shout about judging others not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character? They pick and choose other parts of MLKs speech, but that one doesn't get much air time in the news. Why does the NAACP even still exist? Why don't they morph into the National Association for the Advancement of People and stop continuing the divide? If they want the betterment for their own people wouldn't leading by example - the example being the inclusion of ALL people - send a stronger message to those white people they feel are holding them back? There are too few people of color who succeed in THEIR OWN life and those who do fight not just against racism from white people, but from their own people's prejudice holding them back. We are all different. Celebrate it without needing to belittle the other. There are many white history months. It's called American History, you learned about it all through school. Most of the time when you heard or read about someone who wasn't white they were being forced off their land, killed, enslaved. We don't hear too much about blacks that weren't slaves unless they were fighting to be treated like humans. And even then, you never learned much about Assata Shakur and the Black Panthers or Malcolm X. At least that's how my school system is. I'm sorry, but I just don't like it when white people ask for white history month when there are alrady 9 of them.
honeybunch2k5 Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 races will never be equal until we stop singling groups out for things. i agree, there shouldn't be an naacp; it's another point of separation, not to mention there is no naawp. i understand why it started. fine. but if you want equality, you don't get what others do not. black history month, the black frats and clubs on campus. i think most people lie when they say they want equality, because even individually we want more than the person next to us, regardless of their color. Ignorance must be contagious... There is no naawp because there has never been a need. White people are born previleged. http://uts.cc.utexas.edu/~rjensen/freelance/whiteprivilege.htm The African American struggle is not over, that's why the NAACP is still in existence. If you think there is no racial problem in America, think again. For instance, a black man gets paid 2/3 of what a white man gets paid, and that's been the same since 1880. So yes, there is still work to be done. Blacks are not fighting for more, they are fighting to be equal. There is a white rights group...I think it's called the KKK.
a4a Posted February 6, 2006 Posted February 6, 2006 I am sitting here thinking about my HS history classes. It did pretty much cover black history, of course not every moment of black or white history was included. But thinking about what was covered I can only think of about 3-5 Woman covered in basic HS 101..... Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Betsy Ross, and the various Royal woman that had something to do with US history....... Marie Antoinette forgot her...... we were taught she had her head whacked off......... We need Woman History Month. No wonder all woman only make 75 cents on the dollar and are still opressed by the other gender. a4a
RainyDayWoman Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 We need Woman History Month. No wonder all woman only make 75 cents on the dollar and are still opressed by the other gender. a4a haha, that was funny. thank goodness, cause some people here give me a gigantic headache with their monotony. bye ls.
BlahBlahQueen Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Latecomer to the thread, but I felt compelled to state a little something pertaining to the whole "9 months of white history" thing. American history books only include relevant information regarding the history of our country. The reason there is not much black history in them is because in this country, sadly, not many historical events of huge importance have had Blacks as major players. The ones that did are included in the books. There's a whole lot of trying to "fill in" history with Black achievement, and that's what Black History Month is for. It's there for telling us about the first black man who ever married a white woman, or the first black child to enter a white library, or the first black woman to perform a root canal on a patient... those achievements are great, I'm sure, but are we really going to stick them in an American History book? Then, for the sake of equality, we'd have to include the tale of the first Polish immigrant to build a boat, and the first Hindu to own a bar, and the first Chinese to hold public office... Impossible, it would take 50 years of history class; then we'd be 70 by the time we graduated. It's not nine months of white history, it's 9 months of relevant history. If you want more black people included in the history books, you should get a time machine, go back a couple hundred years and tell them to do more things worthy of historical mention, maybe? I don't believe in the fairness of giving any race its own history month, for reasons everyone already stated. And now I shall run for cover.
blind_otter Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Then there is a dollar bill sitting there as well..... come to find out while I was in the bathroom some dude came up and just took a cigarette out of my pack right the f*** in front of my H! My H sad What the hell are you doing those are my wives cigs. Guy went to put it back in my pack after he already stuck it in his f***in mouth! Then went on to apologize and bitch that the bar did not stock menthol cigs, how awful they are for not doing so, it was a racial thing to not stock menthols, and slung a buck on the bar to pay for the cig he got busted stealing........ this guy was black as well. They weren't Newports, were they? I smoke newports (I tried to quit last year, ohhhh miserable failure). And DAve Chapelle has that joke on his "racial Jeopardy" skit -- "Why do black people smoke menthols? Because thats what newports are."
Mz. Pixie Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 There is no naawp because there has never been a need. White people are born previleged. The African American struggle is not over, that's why the NAACP is still in existence. No, all white people are not born priviledged, that's a racist statement and completely false. We women still don't make what white men make. Where is the justice in that?? A4A and Hokey had some good points but so did Kat. I'm not racist but I live in a area that is probably 60/40 African American. I have certainly experienced what Britney has experienced. Color is not a indication of character whether your black or white but it can certainly be frightening to be where she's been. No one living in the US now, that I'm aware of, experienced slavery first hand. Let's try and move forward with what we've learned and have respect for each other without constantly having to bicker and be rude and disrespectful over something that none of us had anything to do with!

tinktronik Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Im quite surprised by what I've read here. But I used to think the same way. Now I'll make myself clear, I don't think anyone owes anyone else an appology for something obviously none of the Whites living in this country now had any say over. And I thought rascism was a thing of the past . There is definitly rascism on both sides of the equasion. I was raised in a mostly black neighborhood , the only white family , and got harrassed at first , but eventually the harassment stopped , I was told that " I was alright , for a white girl" . This in itself shows some division as "I'd never be one of them", but I had the same financial situation as most of the blacks in my neighborhood, the same absance of a father as most of my neighbors, the same Half siblings. The same statistics , to drop out , do drugs , and the same community influence. I never understood what it was that set me apart . Years later , after moving on with my life , I met my now ex-H . A man of black and white mixed race , and we decided to get married. I began to notice the looks of scorn we got in public from whites . The magistrate refused to mary us, based on our races , we had to go to a different town. I had never noticed these things before. After I gave birth to our oldest son , I was in a grocery store where the cashier ( a white woman) refused to check me out , she told me to " take my N!gg.. baby and leave." I was shocked ! And very dissapointed. We all know people who are biggots , black biggots, white biggots...whaterer a biggot is a biggot ... If its ever to end we all have to stop doing it , and allowing it to occur, if someone you know is a biggot , dont make it okay for them , let them know you believe their views are wrong and disgusting to you . Otherwise the small percentage of jerks , makes it seem oppressive to all of us.
TeaCooler Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 you go girl! did you really just say that? nttawwt
Mz. Pixie Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 right on, mz. pixie. Awwww shucks Seriously, the town I live in is so racist it's ridiculous, except it's reverse racism- black against white. It's absolutely freaking hysterical about 90% of the time!
NavyWifey Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 racist come in all colors... from all economic backgrounds... from all social classes... from all education levels... etc. my mama says that n!ggers come in all races. there are black n!ggers, white n!ggers, hispanic n!ggers, asian n!ggers, arab n!ggers... etc. a n!gger is an ignorant person, not a race... and ignorant people come in all colors. don't let racism get u down no matter who it comes from. just ignore it because that person is just trying to get to you and if you let them upset you then, they've achieved what they intended to do. i've had to learn this. i was born and raised in several southern states. i've seen racism by blacks, white, hispanics, and asians. i've seen racism against blacks, whites, hispanis, asians, and arabs. so anyone can be a victim of racism and anyone can dish it out.
NavyWifey Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 I don't want to affend anyone on this site , who is of a different race or what not, but i am curious on this topic...and noticed it only within groups of well black girls. Why do they always feel a need, to be cruel to you, nag at you for no apparent reason? I meen literally always have something to say about someone..and get annoyed constantly...there are these one particular group of girls, who i have a class with---and i notice they are just plane out mean and they know they can get away with it? I meen no body starts in with these people...and they will go on and on...could it be insecuritie problems within themselves?? Im not saying all blacks...but most at my school tend to have big problems with everyone, FOR NO REASON??? I could never stand up for my self, just because i get nervous easily i just want some answers... they are just being "haters." i went thru the same thing with a group of black girls when i lived in alabama... and i went thru it again with a group of 30+ year old women at my old job. if you're got something good going on, but are going to be jealous and they're gonna hate on ya. just let them be jealous and ignore them. but never let them know that they make u nervous!!! they'll get worse.
Yawn Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Awwww shucks Seriously, the town I live in is so racist it's ridiculous, except it's reverse racism- black against white. It's absolutely freaking hysterical about 90% of the time! <Sigh> That is not reverse racism. That is simply racism. If you want examples of reverse racism read kat's posts in this thread. You're welcome.
