Outcast Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 IMHO Just saw this on 20/20. Amazing stuff. A woman disguised herself as a man and learned what it's like to be a guy. It sounds like a fantastic book. You can go to ABC's site and watch a little video clip about it. Self-Made Man: One Woman's Journey into Manhood and Back Again by Norah Vincent
jen_jen_heartbroken Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Yeah I saw it too. Interesting, but I wonder how things would have been interpreted had it been a straight woman going undercover instead of a lesbian.
whichwayisup Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 I saw something recently about a woman who put on a fat suit and it looked so real. She wanted to see what it was like out in public, how she would be treated by people if she was fat. It was sad watching it actually, made me see how cruel and mean people can be. You can go to ABC's site and watch a little video clip about it. I'm gonna check that out, sounds interesting.
Roo-bie2 Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Can I add to the list of required reading? The Wonder of Boys by Michael Gurain. Even if you dont' have a son it will help you understand your man.
serial muse Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 I picked this up in the bookstore and got so engrossed that I sat there for an hour, reading. Didn't finish it yet (that's for my next trip to the bookstore ) but it was really fascinating. Especially when she talks about going on dates with women, and seeing it from the other side. Men and women both will find this book enlightening, I think. Lots to think about. And it was such a refreshing change from How to Catch a Man/How to Pick up Women-type gender warfare nonsense! I felt very up-with-people after reading it. 1
