Did you like the new Willy Wonka movie with Johnny Depp?

My daughter got the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on dvd and finally got to watch it and wasn't too impressed with Johnny Depp in that movie he acted stupid in there!! Some parts weren't like the original one and really didn't care for it too much.. I like the old Willy Wonka because of Veruca and the golden egg thing was funny along with the song that went along with it sung by the Oopalumpa's ..What did everyone think of the second one as oppose to the first Willy Wonka ?

I did NOT like it at all & I LOVE Johnny Depp movies. I'm just a huge fan of the first one. I think for the people who have never seen the first one will like it.

I love the old Willy Wonka... I will not watch the new one.. What is up with hollywood remaking all the old movies and old television shows into movies?!? Some of them they are just making worse then they really were.

You aren't missing anything it wasn't all that great ... The only reason i got it was cause i was curious to see and daughter wanted it!! I perfer the first one too ,that is why i bought it off ebay on dvd got the vhs already..

That is my thought too they usually remake them and screw them up ..Nothing like the originals !!

i thought the new version was oddly lacking. almost clinical. cold? emotionally flat? it wasn't sharp. does anyone know what i mean?

 

i much prefer the old version of willy wonker, which was was warmer, wackier, darker, funnier. gene wilder is hard to beat. the children in that one had much more robust characters. the ones in this version seemed like cardboard cutouts.

 

i love johnny depp, but i was unmoved by his performance in this version. he was was so utterly brilliant in pirates of the caribbean, i guess i expected he would be similiarly engaging.

Totally agree he was freaky in that movie wasn't a good actor in it at all!!! Wasn't impressed looked like a freak with all that make up on..

yeah he was great in those movies with richard pryor...

Unfortunately, Mr. Depp is getting too old to play those loveable and quirky characters he's built her career upon.

Yeah definitely the movies with Richard Pryor and him .. They was always funny as hell especially the one called See no evil Hear no evil !! Yeah Johnny Depp playing those types of movies he is getting too old to play..

I actually quite liked it. I thought the boy who played Charlie was really good.

 

Then again I saw it at home & I tend to be far less critical of movies when I'm in my own surroundings & can pause them to take to a wiz and/or go to the fridge (though wizzing in the fridge would be nasty).

 

Oh - and my pooch LOVED it! All those squirrels!!! He was trying to check behind the TV & running to the back door - hysterical.

its a good thiing that you don't have a 62" HD plasma TV otherwise the dog would have tried to jump into the screen :laugh:

I liked the boy that played Charlie ,but that is all i liked .. It was nothing like the original one with Gene Wilder.. Johnny Depp is a good actor usually but not in this movie.. I watched it at home on my big screen ..
