witabix Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 when it comes to getting into relationships for more "objective" reasons I believe women are much better at it than men. women will look at a guy and assess his DNA, his family, his education, his job, his wallet, his physical aspects, his intelligence, his personality, etc... before making a decision to fall in "love" with him. In other words, women look at the big picture more than men do when it comes to choosing a mate. Not too sure about this myself Alpha. My experience is somewhat different. All my SO's hooked up with me at times when I had little money. My family has never been a factor, (I am not a Munster family member though!) as we have lived in different countries for a long time. My physical/intelligence/personality tend to travel with me, well usually anyway, and they are not spectacularly different from anyone elses. I think that soem people will be more practically based and others will be more emotionally based.

At least you'd have some tissue to wipe your mouth with after finding the salami?

Outcast Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 ,be their everything. You can't. That's too much. I think your friend should try counselling. Love isn't enough but the counsellor may help them both find the rest of the equation together. I think nobody should quit on a marriage until they've at least tried counselling. Witabix, I agree with your definition. Alph's got a very jaundiced view of love and relationships and he insists on believing that all women are out for money etc. It's not the case but you'll never convince him. Yes, some women are that way but, as you yourself have found out, by all means not all. It's unfortunate that some people actually believe the misogynists' theories.
blind_otter Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I have that 80s song with Don Henley and Patty Smythe in my head. "Baby sometimes, love just ain't enouuuuuuuuugh"

Far be it from me to defend Alpha but, We all arrive here through the route we have taken. Alpha is a product of his experiences, as I am of mine, and you are of yours. I personally didn't find his posts here misogynistic. His view is vastly different from mine, on many topics, but I feel they are his honeslty held beliefs. He has a totally different life to me, and I find it useful to hear his views. His view of the material aspects of a relationship are greatly at odds with mine. His view of the intentions of women are also greatly at odds with mine. But which of us is right? Neither, is my answer. His view is right for him, and mine is right for me. Yours is right for you. That is the cool thing about this board. I think me and Alpha are poles apart. I still want to read his views on the posts we both choose to reply to. I also want to read your views on the threads we both post on. For me love has no material aspect at all. None. Period. For me the material is built on love, making a life together. My sister in law said to me, of my brother once, "I would live in a cardboard box to be with *****, because I love him so much." They have been married for 32 years now, and their life is a romance story in itself, he followed her to Africa just to be with her and he had nothing material, and that was just the start. 1

Alph's got a very jaundiced view of love and relationships and he insists on believing that all women are out for money etc. I dont' believe I've ever stated that ALL women are out for money. I have stated that a disproportionate number of attractive females looks for resources and money. That is my experience in the real world and I think many would agree. I don't believe I have ever been banned from this site.

blind_otter Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I appreciate it when people have viewpoints that are very different from mine and they have some kind of internal basis for their convictions. I like outcast/moi for the same reasons I like alpha -- they both have strongly held convictions that they stand by, and they both don't pull any punches. But they are on opposite sides of the spectrum...without darkness, light would not exist. Blah blah blah.
