Problems with my boss

I am a 62 year old cashier at a gas station slash store. I have worked there over six months. I love doing customer service. I also cook fast foods there. When Xmas came the boss was speaking to me. And said just so you know nobody likes you here so watch your back. And log out of ur register cause they want to  set you up." I was shocked. And hurt by this information. 
 

They planned a Xmas party at a bowling alley. I did not go I was scheduled to work. Did not want to go bowling with a bunch of folks who didnt like me anyhow. The boss also has food that says keep frozen thawed in the fridge that she has us cook for the customers. I asked her about it and she said corp told her to do it that way. I know food handling been doing it for years. What would you do in this situation?

I would watch my back and make sure that I log out of the register.

You could go back to the manager and ask for more details on what they meant. 

I once worked at a job where a worker came up to me (she was a friend of a friend of mine) and she told me I was being too trustworthy. I remember her words. "Don't trust anybody around here. Not even me!"

I had to think about what she meant. In my previous job, people were extremely friendly and trustworthy. This job had a lot of disgruntled employees and so I figured out that I seemed too unguarded in talking with these employees. I think she was right. I tightened up a bit. I didn't get paranoid. But I was more cautious.

Now, back to you, it seems to me your boss likes you. And also he might not like these other people. Sounds like he's saying the other employees are not trustworthy, will steal from the register if they get the chance and so on. 

So see if you can bond with the boss. And look, sometimes you do want to leave a job. But it's possible that these other workers will disappear or get fired in the next year or so. I wouldn't quit the job unless I had another lined up. In other words, your boss just told you that the OTHER people were jerks, not you.

Oh wow… that is a lot to process. Honestly, your boss’s behavior sounds completely unprofessional, inappropriate, and frankly a little hostile. No one should ever say to an employee, “nobody likes you here, watch your back, they want to set you up.” That’s not “management.” A good boss (or manager) would help resolve conflicts, and create a professional, safe, and respectful environment. They wouldn’t foster a hostile atmosphere.

She also has food that's supposed to be frozen thawing in a fridge. 

Sounds like she's the one with the problem.

Who knows if what she told you is even true.

What I would do (if I didn’t want to risk losing my job) is ignore her remark and continue interacting professionally with your co-workers. Focus on doing your job well, maintaining your own standards, and documenting any unsafe practices or inappropriate comments.

I do still work there she gave me 10 hrs total we get paid bi-weekly. So one day a week. And they are days she is not there. Today however a coworker asked me to fill their shift. I confirmed it with her. She approved. Then she sent a group text saying can anybody take the shift. I replied " Am I not taking the shift?" She said who is gonna lock up? I am working noon til 6 and we close at 10:00. We had to juggle a few around but she is not happy because I will be working while she is there. I have never done anything to this women and respect her in every way. It hurts me. But being 62 its hard to find a job so I am stuck. The customers love me. My draw is always on point. Thank you everybody for your advise I appreciate it.

This woman is trying to get you to quit so she doesn't have to terminate you. 

If II were you, I would start looking for a new job now so that you aren't left with no options when this boss of yours pulls the plug. That's where this is heading.

I work at a gas station/convenient store as a cashier/cook. As soon as I interviewed with my boss I liked her. Then she just never gave me a chance. Shes mean and unpleasant at all time to me. She will not schedule me to work on the days she does.

Long story short I was never trained on how to except coupons. And enter them correctly. Yesterday I was by myself and it was so busy. When i took the coupon I did it wrong and it paid for the whole purchase like 18.00. I let the assistant manager  know right away and he said your probably going to get fired. And snatched the reciept and stuff from my hand. And someone walked out with out finishing his cards pin and took his purchase and walked. 
 

in the morning i got a text saying you pay me 68.00. And if you dont pay your fired! I have no money at all.

Not legal anywhere I know about. Have you contacted your local labor board?

When I try to contact them my phone disconnects i have tried several phones and it wont go through

Also even after I paid the money I just found out she wrote me up anyway.

Then you are very likely calling an old and disconnected number. You will need to find the current number.

As I said in your other thread, you need to start looking for another job. This one isn't going to last much longer.

Hi everyone today my co-worker the only one who says hello to me. Told me that 3 people got fired last night. I was preparing papers to go apply for unemployment. Because I am scheduled again to work only 4 hours so my check will be 54.00. For the past two weeks and the next. My co-worker said to hold off until Monday in case she needs me now more then ever. Am I crazy to think they handled the situation. Or should I go ahead and go to unemployment

You can't process a claim unless and until you are laid off. Filing a claim prematurely will prompt the UIS will send your employer a request to confirm termination, and it wouldn't be a good look for your employer to receive that without having fired you.

Pipe down, go to your next scheduled workday and play it through. Maybe you'll get a call from them offering you more hours.

As a matter of fact I did wait and my boss did call me and offered me the closer position 36 hours a week. I am so happy! Thanks to everyone here who took the time to write to me!!

So glad to hear this. Lots of times nasty people will hang themselves if you leave them alone and let them use enough of their own rope. Congrats!
